Jilly Cooper's legendary hero returns!

Rupert Campbell-Black, undefeated race-horse owner and handsomest man in the world, is in the darkest of places. His adored wife, Taggie, is about to undergo chemotherapy, his beloved horse Love Rat has died, and now his daughter Bianca wants him to buy a languishing local football club - a sport Rupert knows nothing about - so she can return to Rutshire with her football star husband.

Rupert's first impressions of Searston Rovers are distinctly unfavourable. But swayed by Bianca and Taggie, soon Rupert has signed the deal. As Searston's new owner, he won't stand for anything less than victory in the Premier League, despite the odds being stacked against him. With help from the club's ravishing and adorable secretary, Tember West, Rupert sets out to mastermind Searston's rise to the top, starting with taking charge of the players - much to the fury of Searston's manager.

The rival football club and their corrupt dealings aren't going to make it easy for him either - and they have a history of foul play. Let the sabotage and scandal begin...

Well I loved it!

The only thing wrong with this was that it was too short! You know what you’re going to get with Jilly Snd thus did not disappoint. I also loved the narration - unlike other comments I thought she did a great job, especially with Taggie and her soft Irish accent which did not descend into comedy ‘oirish’. I’m Irish so I can comment. Honestly - typical Jilly and a fab listen.

Its like catching up with family

Ok so its not the best book in the series but its so lovely to catch up with all the characters, i have loved the whole series and was very sad at the end of this book as its likely to be the last visit

Two Short

But I guess if this is the last RCB book, it’s wrapped everything up nicely x

A warm hug from Jilly Cooper

Reading a Jilly Cooper novel is like coming home to a warm hug - not the fanciest of homes, but warm and comfy anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed this latest installment, catching up with old characters and meeting new ones, and Jilly's trademark writing style. Although much shorter than previous novels, the story was still engaging and well-told. I particularly enjoyed the narration - Katherine Parkinson did an outstanding job with the multitude of accents and hit just the right note.

A real shame 😔

I love Jilly Cooper books so was very excited for this one. sadly the narrator has poor pronunciation and didn't do Taggie Justin with her Irish accent. Oh well. I hope it's not Jillys last.....

Oh dear. So anticipated, yet so disappointed

Everytime I run out of credits I fall back on Jilly. I have listened to them so many times so I was excited to see a new book coming out. My anticipation was through the roof and I was disappointed that it was only advertised as 11 hours long, unlike her previous marathons that kept me hooked for days. However, 11 hours ended up being 11 hours to long. Narration was awful and the character voices were chavvy and annoying. Arrogant Rupert come across as wet. The footballers were cry babies and childish. I will always love Jilly’s previous books and will keep on re listening to them. Unfortunately this is being deleted and forgotten about 🥲

Poor story

Some good chapters but too many nicknames and awful cringeworthy’ ‘limerick’ chants. Narrator not good, seemed to struggle with accents. Not Jilly Cooper’s best

The reading

I liked everything ! The story, the horses, the people and certainly the reading accents and character impersonation.

Good ending to the RCB saga

Loved it. Sad that it’s the last book. Wrapped everything up nicely. I thought the narrator was great!
