About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Jilly Cooper is a true fan favourite:

'Entertaining, witty and a total escape!'
'Unputdownable and addictive as always'
'Rupert is back. Still gorgeous. Still naughty. Still wondrous'
'A delightfully indulgent read . . . twists in the plot and, as always, a charming ending'

Jilly Cooper's legendary hero returns!

Rupert Campbell-Black, undefeated race-horse owner and handsomest man in the world, is in the darkest of places. His adored wife, Taggie, is about to undergo chemotherapy, his beloved horse Love Rat has died, and now his daughter Bianca wants him to buy a languishing local football club - a sport Rupert knows nothing about - so she can return to Rutshire with her football star husband.

Rupert's first impressions of Searston Rovers are distinctly unfavourable. But swayed by Bianca and Taggie, soon Rupert has signed the deal. As Searston's new owner, he won't stand for anything less than victory in the Premier League, despite the odds being stacked against him. With help from the club's ravishing and adorable secretary, Tember West, Rupert sets out to mastermind Searston's rise to the top, starting with taking charge of the players - much to the fury of Searston's manager.

The rival football club and their corrupt dealings aren't going to make it easy for him either - and they have a history of foul play. Let the sabotage and scandal begin...

Praise for Jilly Cooper:
'Fun, sexy and unputdownable - a classic' Marian Keyes

'Flawlessly entertaining' Helen Fielding

Critic reviews

A giddy, sexy, exuberant romp of a story...a total tonic, offering the sort of glorious escapism we're all desperately in need of
It's pure escapism - the perfect antidote to the real world, full of warmth, wit and Rupert Campbell-Black
A breathless plot that [...] sizzles with all the scandal, scheming and saucy shenanigans a reader could hope for
Won't disappoint her many fans: bonking, balls and Campbell-Black. All present and incorrect
Bursting with fun, puns, and shenanigans
If you loved Riders, and binge-watched Ted Lasso, then this is your dream novel. Pitch perfect and utterly swoon-worthy. Jilly is a genius
A fabulous feast of fun, frolics and football
Jilly is back on fine form bringing the world of football to brilliant life. A read that was fleet of foot and contained plenty of last minute surprises ... I loved it
I felt my mood perceptibly improve over the few days of reading ... The only problem with Tackle! is that you have to ration yourself or you'll gobble it up in one go
A jolly jolt of Jilly on a cold autumn day

But I guess if this is the last RCB book, it’s wrapped everything up nicely x

Two Short

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Some good chapters but too many nicknames and awful cringeworthy’ ‘limerick’ chants. Narrator not good, seemed to struggle with accents. Not Jilly Cooper’s best

Poor story

This brings together all the small story lines that have been running throughout the series and rounds it off. Delivered on Jilly Coopers usual wonderful way. Thoroughly enjoyable!

A nice roundup to finish it off

I’m a great fan of Jilly’s books. I love her humour and I really enjoyed another part of RCBs story. I liked the narration too

Thoroughly enjoyed this
