Summary
It is the Age of Ruin, a time in desperate need of heroes. But heroes are in short supply. The only candidates - a motley company at best - are scattered to the four winds.
Former rebel Sasha has now become an unwilling envoy between the powerful. Eremul the Halfmage languishes in disgrace, his warnings of approaching war falling on deaf ears. Yllandris, sorceress of the High Fangs, servant to a demon lord, has become that which she most despises. Davarus Cole, assassin of the immortal, lies on the brink of death. The legendary champion Brodar Kayne carves a bloody path towards his enemy of old in search of the woman he thought dead....
In this, the second blistering instalment of Luke Scull's critically acclaimed trilogy The Grim Company, past and present collide, plunging the Age of Ruin further into darkness....
Luke Scull is the lead designer at game design company Ossian Studios. He lives and works in Warminster.

terrible narrator voice and style
What was most disappointing about Luke Scull’s story?
I could not take the characters seriously as the narrators voice and accents were diabolical
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
anger and disappointment -
The story is probably very good but I just could not get past the narrators voice. It all sounded amateurish. Any scenes that were supposed to be tense were laughable
Any additional comments?
Narrator's voice too reedy and immature for this book

Great sequel
Read the first one, thought I'd give this one a shot on audible. Joe does a great job, personified each character brilliantly. Luke continues to evoke memories of Gemmell in his writing. Sometimes brutal, sometimes touching.
Looking forward to the next installment

Book two just as good as the first
What did you like most about Sword of the North?
The characters were well fleshed out, continuing on from the first book the story moved along at a good pace with plenty of action. The only disappointment came in the final third of the book where the story slowed to a crawl before wrapping up very quickly. I really didn't enjoy how it was done and was very jarring,
Who was your favorite character and why?
I really liked Brodar Kayne and Jarek not just as for their individual characters but also in the way they play off each other which can give some humorous moments during the book, their back story is also explained in greater detail here. However for me i grew to like Davarus Cole a lot more in this entry. The parts focused on his character were gritty and turned this into a real page turner for me.
What does Joe Jameson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
I thought he was fantastic. Great characterizations which made it easy to pick characters out before their names were even mentioned, this really helped keep me immersed in the story. I think he does the female voices extremely well too.
Any additional comments?
If you liked the first book as i did this is a no brainer. Bigger in scope and more detailed than book one this is a must read. If you weren't too sure about the first one this entry may improve things for you, however as i mentioned earlier the final third of the book tends to jump from one perspective to another without really advancing the story much and certain characters disappear rather too abruptly for my liking. Still, it's a very good listen! Looking forward to the next one Mr Scull.

Strange story
The lock picking described was embarrassingly bad. There needs to be two tools, a pick and a pry. Small but simple, details make a difference

Don’t bother
I’ve tried to listen to this jumble of nonsense for far longer than I should. The story is unfocused and too many unexplained additions to characters and the meandering plot. Plus, I know the presenter is doing his best but sadly every character sounds like an anxious teenager due to the lack of differentiation. It’s now quite obvious to me why many of these stories are offered in the two for one ‘jumble sale’.

Very entertaining!
Really enjoyed the book and the performance. Good breadth of characters one both sides as well as those balancing on the line between good and evil.

Excellent performance!!
The talent of the reader(s) is superb... fantastics variation of accents, pitch, inflections, etc.
Plot continued to evict, I'm enjoying it but remain slightly reserved on a final verdict. Some of the plot is similar to things like GoT, which isn't a bad thing but not entirely original. However, the writing is pretty good overall!
