Summary

The brand-new adventure from the beloved author of The Hundred Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared.

Victor Alderheim has a lot to answer for. Not only has he heartlessly tricked his young ex-wife, Jenny, out of her art gallery inheritance, but he has also abandoned his son, Kevin, to die in the middle of the Kenyan savanna.

It doesn’t occur to Victor that Kevin might be rescued and adopted by a Maasai medicine man, or that he might be expected to undergo the rituals expected of all new Maasai warriors - which have him running back to Stockholm as fast as you can say circumcision without anaesthetic.

Back in Stockholm, Kevin’s path crosses with Jenny’s - and they have an awful lot to talk about, not least a shared desire to get even with Victor. So it’s convenient when they run into a man selling revenge services, who has an ingenious idea involving Victor’s cellar, a goat, some forged paintings, four large boxes of sex toys and a kilo of flour....

Critic reviews

"This novel zips along." (Sunday Times )

"In the first chapters of Sweet Sweet Revenge Ltd there’s enough plot for several novels.... Jonas Jonasson, best known for The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, is a wildly inventive writer, often funny, who stuffs his bonkers but entertaining story with art, politics and romance, and a tongue-incheek meditation on the philosophy of getting even. Great fun." (The Times)

"Jonas Jonasson creates hilarity out of brilliantly absurd plots, whether it is a 100-year-old man escaping through an old folk’ home window, or a South African peasant girl who saves the King of Sweden. His latest unlikely hero is Kevin who is abandoned by his callous father on the Kenyan savannah in the expectation he will be eaten by lions.... Add a crooked art dealer, a lazy Swedish policeman, an ophthalmologist whose wife ditched him for a urologist, and we are set for delicious Jonasson mayhem." (Daily Express)

Slow start but loved it as I got more into it

Another great story from Jonas and equally read by Peter Kenny. Off to get Hitman Anders now to see how that one goes.

Another 5 star from Mr Jonasson.

I absolutely loved this book. As good as if not better than The girl who saved the King of Sweden.

Is this a racist portrayal of people from Africa?

I liked this book for the most part. However the more I listed the more I felt uncomfortable about the dated portrayal of the African characters in the book.

It’s put me off listening to more from this author.

It’s a shame really as the rest of the book was enjoyable.

One of his best yet

I've read all of Jonas Jonasson's books and but found it hard to engage with his last book as much (Hitman Anders) as the characters just weren't as likable. I feel like in this book he has really mastered the art of creating characters with more realistic moral depth who you can still find incredibly endearing. It's funny, clever and the storyline has just enough twists and turns to keep you hooked but not confuse you.

It's the type of book I wish I could read for the first time again.

Peter Kenny, as always, does a fantastic job reading and his acting really adds something to the wit of Jonasson's writing.

😀Another great story from JJ

Where else would you find an art dealer, Maasai medicine man, advertising guru and an art gallery archivist in one place?

Another wonderful, amusing and improbable story that keeps tripping along. Unlikely friendships between well thought out characters who unwittingly create problems for each other, which in turn are solved but cause even more...
Great read/listen.
One of my favourite authors!

More silliness

Masai worriers, artists, escalators and lingonberries. What’s not to like?

A rare flawed performance from Peter Kenny. Not at all bad, don’t get me wrong, but trying to do a Swedish accent consistently isn’t his thing.

Jonas Jonasson you🌟

Unfailing ability to amuse and still present characters & situations, funny not funny, and funny for sure, in a highly entertaining and yet believable, manner. I’ve loved his written works of art, since happening upon them whilst browsing, a couple of years ago. This one is no exception. Entertainment, narrated perfectly. Bravo! More! Bravo!
