Love Theoretically meets Lights Out in this swoony dark rom-com with a morally grey lead who wants to learn everything he can about the woman he’s obsessed with, but stalking her isn’t as easy as he anticipated.

Summer keeps her dark fantasies close to her chest—and between the pages of her favorite books. With a globetrotter mother and a traveling artist best friend, Summer seeks her adventures as a professional fake girlfriend, spending her days pretending to be anyone other than herself for a thrill and a lucrative paycheck.

Of course, being a professional fake girlfriend makes dating a bit . . . challenging. Especially when her new client is the same man who accidentally broke into her apartment—the same man she hasn’t been able to stop thinking about since. But if Noah knew the real Summer, if he knew her fantasies of being the object of a man’s obsession and unshakable devotion, she’s not sure he’d want any relationship with her—fake or not.

Noah didn’t mean to break into Summer’s home. In his drunken state, he mistook her apartment for his friend’s, but now that he’s met gorgeous, fiery Summer, he’s found the perfect candidate to convince his overbearing family that he’s over his recent breakup: a professional fake girlfriend. Except the more Noah gets to know Summer, the more his obsession grows. He wants to know everything about her, and based on the books on her shelf and her own drunken confession, she’s not against a little light stalking.

Unfortunately, from unsuccessfully hiding behind menus to mistakenly leaving his return address on gifts to getting caught peering through her window, Noah isn’t exactly nailing this whole stalking thing. And his messiness has obviously attracted the attention of the wrong person because things for Noah go very, very badly. As in, find-yourself-locked-in-the-trunk-of-a-car bad.

So maybe stalking isn’t quite as easy as he had hoped.

4.5 ⭐'s - Since the Lights Out and Butcher and Blackbird series' any time I've seen a book pop up that claims to be a dark romcom or the next book like those, I've given them a go because who doesn't want a bit of humour with the dark spiciness sometimes and although most of them have been good books they just haven't given me the same vibes, this one gave me those vibes though, I laughed, smirked, kicked my feet, felt embarrassed for the characters at times, I even got a little teary one or two times too, it was also sweet and cute, I didn't feel it was dark but meh - who cares, the darkness scale is a matter of opinion and it was still a really enjoyable book, can't wait for the next one to come out (although I'd hoped it would be about V - still hopeful that's to come)

If you like your dark romance with a heavy side of unhinged possessiveness, razor-sharp banter, and spice so hot you’ll need to double-check your Bluetooth connections (I certainly did a few times 🤭), Sweet Obsession is an absolute masterpiece.

Harmony West nailed the ultimate sweet spot: dark tropes matched with top-tier humor that had me snort-laughing one minute and clutching my chest the next.
The stalker-vibes and morally grey obsession are dialed up to eleven, but the comedic timing keeps it dangerously fun (the inconveniently timed sneezing had me laughing out loud). The dynamic between the leads is electricity from the start, they’re unapologetic, wildly intense, and overflowing with banter that hits like a shovel to the back of the head (IYKYK 😂)

And the narration? Absolute perfection. The performance handles the dark, morally grey tone seamlessly while delivering every witty punchline and filthy, mouth-watering monologue with spine-tingling precision. You can practically feel the heat coming through your headphones.

If you’re looking for a dark romantic comedy that doesn't hold back on the obsession or the spice, spend the credit immediately. You won't regret it!
