Hello! I’m Brian Limond, aka Limmy. You might know me from Limmy’s Show. Or you might not know me at all. Don’t worry if you don’t.
They asked me to write a book about mental health, because I sometimes talk about my mental health in tweets and interviews, like suicidal thoughts and anxiety, and what I’ve done to try and deal with it.
I said to them, oh, I don’t know if I could fill a whole book with just that. But how’s about I write a general autobiography type of thing, and all the mental health stuff will naturally appear along the way? I could talk about growing up and slashing my wrist and taking acid all the time and getting done for car theft and feeling like a mad freak that would never amount to anything.
And then how I made my own sketch show. I directed it and everything. Plus I’m a dad. I’m an adult. But I still feel like that mad freak from years ago. I still feel like chucking it all away, for a laugh.
I asked them if they wanted me to write about all that, plus some other stuff. Like being an alky. And my sexual problems. Stuff like that.
They said aye.
So here it is.

Brilliant
Loved it. Limmy is brutally honest throughout and reads it excellently. I was listening to it in my works van, and was at a customers house. The customer came out to the van to carry something in. I put the keys in the ignition while I helped the customer. My Bluetooth automatically connected and a story of Limmy licking a wet fanny came blaring out the speakers in front of my customers. As I said, brilliant.

Very down to earth & very funny.
Limmy gives us a frank insight into some of his history and the coinciding battles and experiences with his mental health. Some of it is quite scary to hear but it is always dashed with some dark humour in the traditional Limmy way. it's definitely a very interesting read and I certainly recommend the audiobook version of not just this book but all of his previous books - It always adds a extra level of depth to hear him speak the words, and he's brilliant at it.
it's not a completely encyclopedic look at his life, but does go from his first memories, to school, college/uni, jobs and relationships and some of the mishaps inbetween all along to even writing the book itself.
The real centre line for the book though is his honest, bare knuckle approach to explaining how over the years that mental health has affected him and in quite some detail. Whether it's talking about an 'evil presence' or how he just knew that he 'had' to end his life at certain points and how he snapped out of it, it's a very stark and humbling read or listen at times.
This isn't a self help book, nor does Limmy proclaim to be a kind of guru of mental wellness - He just explains it, warts and all and fully admits he doesn't understand it, it's just part of him.
This is a refreshing read/listen in that way - Almost every other book with mental health as a cornerstone would try and offer some kind of help or explanation (nothing wrong with that at all, mind you) but in this Limmy just exposes it for the strange and maddening experience it can be and how it has defined certain moments or periods in his life.
That said, I don't wish to make this sound like this is a particularly heavy book to read in that sense - And that's the beauty of it. All this is told and explained with Limmy's humour and self depricating wit included with in other daft anecdotes.
Perhaps then the overriding takeaway of this book is how humour and personal struggle are two sides of the same coin. They play off each other and sometimes can even dance with each other, and humour with its many different forms and faces can help us see a little beyond ourselves at times in order to get the perspective we need.
All that, and the book is just a good read to have whilst struggling on the toilet.

If ye ever wanted a blow by blow account of the impact of imperialist British ideology on urban Scottish expression, then look nae further than this frank account by Limmy. And fuck the BBC.

Blahem!
Incisive, brutal and very refreshing. Followed Limmy's career for over a decade now, and his attitude and approach to things has definitely shaped who I consider myself to be today.
Listening to him narrate his life is heartbreaking and incredibly uplifting. Voicing things out loud that other people keep bottled up is extremely humbling and thought-provoking.

Inside info on Michael Jackson
Turns out Limmy lived with MJ for a while. Had a portable TV in his room and he used to watch Home Alone in black & white and smoke all day. But Limmy had the last laugh....

Loved it
I've always liked Limmy's stuff, I found it quite surprising how relatable limmy actually is. I don't know what I expected to be honest but I didn't expect to actually have enjoyed this book as much as I did.

Limmy's Book
Fucking great. Learned that "greetin" means crying. 10/10.
Super relatable the way he describes mental health. I only recently got into this dude's comedy but I think I'll be a fan for life after this book.

Surprisingly down to earth
I got way more than I bargained for with this find. I expected this to just be some f-ing nutter out of touch comedian trying to cash in on his 15 minutes, but was pleasantly surprised by how down to earth he was. I found myself reminiscing on my own childhood and adolescence at many points, and laughing heartily at many others. Very relatable, but definitely not in your face about it. Highly recommend.

Hilarious, touching, enlightening, and very human.
A very fun listen. If you're already a Limmy fan then you'll love every bit of it and you'll enjoy all the call backs and further info on parts of the Limmy lore. It's a refreshingly candid look into mental health and depression that most people could benefit from giving a listen. Very funny and surprisingly down to earth indeed
