Story
Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop students with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes.

Felix would like nothing more than to take a vacation. A long one. One where he didn’t have to wake up every morning and worry over casualty lists for the day. Ever since he and the Legion had been forced to flee their headquarters four years previous, nothing had gone quite right. In fact, Felix and the Legion have been locked in a shadow war with enemies unknown. Ones with magic that could carve through their technology easily.

Gifted with meta-human powers, Tori Rivas kept away from the limelight, preferring to work as a thief in the shadows. But when she's captured trying to rob a vault that belongs to a secret guild of villains, she's offered a hard choice: prove she has what it takes to join them or be eliminated. Apprenticed to one of the world's most powerful (and supposedly dead) villains, she is thrust into a strange world where the lines that divide superheroes and criminals are more complex than they seem.

Story
The necromantic armies are on the warpath and nowhere is safe. Even the presumed sanctuary of the floating dungeon controlled by Cal is threatened! The leadership of nearly all the sentient monarchies has been wiped out, and only the races most suited to repelling the advancing darkness have an intact chain of command. Cal learns quickly that the most pressing threat is not the far-off war, but is instead those entrusted with the general population's protection. As it turns out, the idea of having a flying dungeon for your people is very tempting indeed....

Story
In a world full of super powers, Felix has a pretty crappy one. He has the ability to modify any item he owns. To upgrade anything. Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. With that in mind, Felix settled into a normal life. A normal job. His entire world changes when the city he lives in is taken over by a super villain. Becoming a country of one city. A city state.

Summary
Despite having their secret revealed, the residents of Melbrook Hall return to Lander University for another year in the Hero Certification Program. Good thing the focus of this year is teamwork, because with their origins known, they'll have to lean on each other more than ever.
Now finally sophomores, their curriculum expands, allowing them to train in the majors that Heroes specialize in. The new classes will test their minds, bodies, and determination in ways never anticipated. In a year filled with the unveiling of secrets, unexpected entanglements, and, of course, super-powered battles, who will be left standing is anyone's guess. Because if all that weren't enough, more light is being shed on last year's kidnapping attempt, and the results point at something far bigger than mere rogue educators.
Something that isn't even close to being over with.

It's ok.
I'm not sure who the story is meant for. It moves like a young teen story, it has lots of exposition like a young teen story but it has language and some content that absolutely isn't young teen. Despite these failings, but because of the clear world-view and pace of storytelling the book and its predecessor have found a place in my library. They are not challenging at all but are entertaining enough to listen through to the end with no regrets about the purchase.

Holy crap that was good!
I really enjoyed year 1 and was anxiously awaiting year 2, but I would never have anticipated how beyond satisfying it would be.
I rarely have time to sit down and read but am seriously considering reading year 3 instead of waiting a month. For the moment, my soul is happy and satiated. For the moment...

Perfect addition to the series.
The author is a bit heavy handed with the "he replied" and "she said" which can make parts of a group conversation a bit of marathon. I respect unabridged is as described but when the narrator goes into easy to follow characters it's tedious. I still absolutely loved it. I also really value that its not the typical 10.5 hour audiobook so you can really get into the story.
Fight scenes can drag a bit at times but thats more of a personal opinion. I am also frustrated with the ongoing cliffhangers that were started in Book 1 with the fantasy answers were coming in Book 2. Then again that's what will likely keep me interested.
I accidentally started with Corpies which lead me to year 1. By the end I was searching for year 2 weeks before it's release. I can't wait until 3 arrives.

I hate Drew Hayes!!!
I picked up this series to kill a little time.
I am now hopelessly addicted to it and saddened to know there is an end to this glorious tale.
There is a character(s) for everyone to identify with in this book. We have all been in these situations and felt the insecurity that these characters have been though.
I am unable to get anything done, I have to find out what becomes of these characters that feel like friends and family to me.
So, in closing "F" Drew Hayes.... I had a life before starting these books!!!!!

A bit more perceptive than the usual spoof
If you take out the slightly annoying "...so-and-so said." that becomes redundant when the conversation is acted out, the story is quite engaging. The characters are believable, and the author exposes the different levels of understanding a given situation might have. I really found myself empathizing with the characters despite the sappy descriptions by the narrator. I was surprised at the depth of detail provided while keeping the story moving quickly. The story is very character driven and the protagonists experience an appreciable amount of change. The narrator has a good range of convincing voices and personalities. Totally recommended series.

Just About
What did you love best about Super Powereds: Year 2?
It builds a world, and populates it with some cool characters. And I'm not just talking about the main six Melbrook characters, but the 2nd and 3rd tier ones as well, both faculty and students. The story moved along, and I was invariably eager to get to the next part, however haphazardly I was listening to it (usually on the walk or bike ride to work). Looking forward to the next one.
What other book might you compare Super Powereds: Year 2 to and why?
It's a college Harry Potter, though using X-Men style powers. That's a good thing if properly executed, and by and large this is.
What does Kyle McCarley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Kyle really does the different voices well. With the main six characters I can instantly tell who it is, even if the text doesn't immediately tell us. He's a fantastic reader, and is a huge impetus for me to experience the next book in audio form, rather than on paper or Kindle.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Too long to listen to in one sitting, it probably took me a month or a bit less, there were very few days I skipped.
Any additional comments?
I knocked this story down a star because of the trainwreck that is Vince Reynolds. A naive, meek coward, afraid to hurt a fly. I hope to God that Book 3, which I've already downloaded, does something interesting with him, and that the events of this book change him, or at least make him evolve. He sucked.
Also, making Alice Adair hot made for some interesting visuals (I pictured Evanna Lynch ironically), but given that not one sober guy in two books has hit on her......well......just seems out of place.
