A contemporary romance, typically from EJ Russell I listen to their paranormal, so this was an enjoyable change.
The main characters, Dev and Casey, are not just well-written, but their relationship is a captivating blend of chemistry and depth.
It kept me amused throughout, as most of their books do. Great side characters.
I love how there is always a fun/comical aspect to their writing.
The narration was on point, and Greg Boudreaux was a pleasure to listen to, as always. I increased the speed, which is typical for me. I recommend the audio version all day long.

Summer Kitchen is a really lovable, fairly low angst romance between two men struggling against the expectations that have been put on them by others.
I really enjoyed the set up to Casey and Dev meeting, both having a hard time accepting what their future looks like. Casey has so much pressure put upon him by his uncle, expecting the miracle that Casey will be able to learn his late father's recipes but since Casey can burn water, it's fairly unlikely. That doesn't stop him being sent off to Home for three months, to learn from a top chef. There he meets quite the eclectic group of people but top of the list is Dev, Home's town manager. He only came into that role after his brother and grandfather passed away so it's not something he was prepared for but has given his all for the last eighteen months. Things are tight, though, and his last hope is the upcoming antiques fair but of course, with all things rom com, it does not go to plan. Their attraction sparks from their first meeting and Dev is instantly taken in by Casey's looks and personality. They are equally good for each other when it comes to support of what they actually want and need, not what others want for them but here, they work hard to make Home a home.
Their spanner in the works of a possible HEA comes in the forms of several men who seem to think their self importance outweighs quite literally everything else, including to any words that others have to say to them. It makes for some entertaining exchanges but also one or two awkward moments that need Dev and Casey to trust in each other. There are also quite a few entertaining characters around this small town that I can't wait to get to know better.
A great new series from EJ Russell and I can't wait to read/listen to the next in the series, hopefully it includes the instantly lovable Owen.
**Trigger warning - there is a small, passing mention of problems with eating food (not on page), and death of family members (off page)**
Fabulous narration for a wonderful romance

Casey and Dev are both dealing with loss and the weight of unwanted expectations foisted upon them.
Through some miscommunications and devious plots designed to derail them they slowly get to know one another.
They learn to accept help and realize that they need to take the reins of their own lives.
They were so sweet together and I loved Randolph Scott, his interactions were adorable.
I loved the found family aspect and how the town found new life inhabitants to keep it alive and kicking.
The narrator did an amazing job bringing these characters to life and I constantly found myself laughing out loud.
Heartfelt and hilarious
