Summary
Vulnerability is not knowing victory or defeat - but understanding both of them are necessary.
This guide will lead you through the book Daring Greatly, by Brené Brown.
In her book, she explains how the courage to be vulnerable transforms the way we live, love, parent, and lead. Vulnerability permeates all areas of our lives. If you aren’t opening yourself up to vulnerability, you’re not truly living.
This summary will debunk some of the most common vulnerability myths:
- Vulnerability is weakness
- I don’t do vulnerability
- Vulnerability is letting it all hang out
- We can do it alone
You will also learn some of the most common types of vulnerability armor and how to disarm yourself from them:
- Foreboding joy/practicing gratitude
- Perfectionism/appreciating imperfection
- Numbing/setting boundaries, finding comfort, and cultivating spirit
Of course, before you can become vulnerable, you must learn to understand and combat shame and blame - and ultimately disengagement. This guide will help you to understand all of that and so much more!

In a culture where we never have enough, and always want more, many people are deeply unhappy and hurting inside. We compare ourselves to others - to what they have and to what they do, and we never live up to what we think we see.

Robotic voice
The content was great but the robotic style and tone of voice was jarring. It actually took away from the experience. The style did not suit the topic and content which is about authenticity and vulnerability, it felt impersonal and mechanical which is far removed from how Mrs. Brown writes.
