THE SENSATIONAL NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

She's from the wrong side of the tracks.

Liberty Jones has dreams and determination that will take her far away from Welcome, Texas - if she can keep her wild heart from ruling her mind. Hardy Cates sees Liberty as completely off-limits. His own ambitions are bigger than this town and Liberty Jones is a complication he doesn't need. But something magical and potent draws them to each other, in a dangerous attraction that is stronger than both of them.

He's the one man she can't have.

When Hardy leaves town to pursue his plans, Liberty finds herself alone with a young sister to raise. When she starts working for the powerful Travis family, an irresistible attraction develops with eldest son, Gage. So when Hardy comes to find her, Liberty finds herself caught in a dangerous love triangle.

Two men. One woman. A choice that can make her or break her. A love story you'll never forget.

This is a 3.5 stars for me. To my mind, Lisa Kleypas’ writing is some of the best within the modern romance genre, but having read only her historical novels before, this is a bit of a departure in terms of theme. This isn’t a strictly HEA romance - the tied-up-with-a-bow-soulmates-type story - but that seems to be the point. It’s a HEA for the heroine in this phase of her life; it’s about the fact that lives are long and people are capable of loving more than one person. It’s about the fact that not everyone loves equally and you can love someone who doesn’t love you back. It also seems to be a bit of a parable about not losing yourself to a man who doesn’t love you enough to always put you first! Which is all great and all ideas which I, theoretically, agree with. But I still found this one disappointing at the end. There are 2 heroes - Hardy & Gage - who end up in the most polite love triangle the world has ever seen, complete with handshakes. The heroine does end up with the right guy, but because one hero appears so late in the book with scant character development, you never truly get to know him. So sadly the ending fell flat for me, despite understanding it.

3.5 understanding but frustrated stars
