Summary
When Florrie Maltby defies her father by refusing to marry Gervase Richards, she sets off a chain of events that will alter her life. Instead she goes to London and becomes involved with the suffragette movement. She's imprisoned for her militant actions and goes on hunger strike. With her health deteriorating, there is one person who can save her - Gervase.
After a brief stay in the countryside to recuperate, Florrie returns to London to continue her fight for women's rights. Only the outbreak of the Great War puts a halt to her activities. It is when James, her younger brother, is shamed by their father into volunteering that Florrie enlists as a nurse and is sent to the Front. Amidst the fear and horror of the hospital close to the trenches, she finds love. But when her beloved brother is accused of desertion, help comes from a very unexpected source.

I was disappointed
What would have made Suffragette Girl better?
Less repetition: She was a "handsome woman but careful use of make up".. blah blah blah. Considering it was a book about the emancipation of women there's an awful lot of "but her delicate frame and fine features"... yawn, yawn..
What could Margaret Dickinson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Maybe moved the book along a bit.
Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Nicolette McKenzie?
Someone with a smoother less strained voice.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
None that I can think of. Bearing in mind I didn't actually finish it due to the tightness of the narrator's vocal chords and the repetitiveness of the same old phrases.
Any additional comments?
I bought this because of the good reviews but I got really fed up with this. I deleted it from my phone today to make room for video of Le Tour de France and I don't think I'll bother adding it back on again.

Lovely story predictable but so what!
I love Nicolette she has a great voice and defines the characters so well. Story I enjoyed too. Read several stories recently about same period. Took far longer decorating my christmas tree as I wanted to continue listening.

Excellent story
Read beautifully. This story was so good and also interesting historically. The author writes so well that you can picture the characters and scenes in your head.

Highly recommend.
Another winning novel, in my opinion, by Margaret Dickinson. The title may be a little misleading as the story is so much more than the title suggests. So absorbing.
