Summary

Innocence dies so easily. Evil lives again...and again...and again.

One hundred years ago in Port Arbello a pretty little girl began to scream. And struggle. And die. No one heard. No one saw. Just one man whose guilty heart burst in pain as he dashed himself to death in the sea.

Now something peculiar is happening in Port Arbello. The children are disappearing, one by one. An evil history is repeating itself. And one strange, terrified child has ended her silence with a scream that began 100 years ago.

A good story but not as good as other reviews suggest

An interesting read that in my mind was set in a sort of Victorian formal family setting. Clearly not what was intended. The story was interesting but didn’t live up the the expectations I had based on other reviews. Narration could have been better, too.

The Mystery about Beth

I did enjoy this book, until the end!! what was that even about? such a waste of my time listening to it, am so glad it was free as I would have been so annoyed if I had paid for it. It just ends, no explanation, absolutely nothing.

would not recommend this book to anyone.

First 2 star rating of the year.

Great Storyline

Well worth a credit. Listened over 2 days and just as engrossed in the story, as I was many years ago when I first read the book myself.

Poor Sarah

The girl had it tough. But you know what John is definitely one to leave you hungry for more. This was an incredible book and the cliffhanger feels so illegal but it's okay.. I loved it none the less.

Fantastic Listening

I read this book over 30 years ago. I totally loved it then and I was amazed to find it on audio.
Wonderfully narrated, I enjoyed it just as much, if not more this time round!

Finally a brilliant story!

I’ve been looking for something to peak my interest, so many books were ‘meh’ gap fillers, this once it got going was one of those you want to know more in between listening.
A gripping family ghost story, full of family secrets and stories
Worth a read! You won’t regret it
