Summary

Only fools fall in love...

After her senior year of high school leaves behind nothing but heartache, Olivia Beaumont is sure of this: She's no stupid girl. She sets out for Winston College, promising herself that she will remain focused on her first and only love - astronomy. But all it takes is cocky sophomore Brax Jenkins and an accidental collision with a football, to throw her entire year off course.

A quick-tempered Southie who escaped the inner city streets of Boston to pitch for Winston, Brax is known to play way more fields than just the baseball diamond. So, when his name is drawn to take part in his fraternity's hazing dare, Brax eagerly accepts the mission to take Olivia's virginity. But he doesn't plan on falling hard for the sweet and sassy Texas girl who sees right through his bad-boy persona.

As Olivia and Brax battle their feelings for each other, echoes of the past year begin to surface. A boy who once turned Olivia's whole world upside down reappears, and "harmless" pranks wreak havoc. Pretty soon the aspiring astronomer is on the verge of revealing her most difficult, heartbreaking secret. All the while, Brax must wrestle with the irrevocable dare, and Olivia struggles against all logic as she does the one thing only a stupid girl would do: Fall in love.

Loved the book

I liked characters, the narrator’s Boston accent, and the love that grew between the characters. Brax came to love Gracie in the sweetest way. 5 stars for sure.

Stupid Girl

Something about the title caught my eye and I thought why not, I even just scrolled to what people were saying and I saw a lot of drama this and that usually, that would make me stop. But if I had I wouldn’t have listened to this book and I am glad I did.

I really enjoyed Olivia aka Gracie’s story and how she overcomes. The connection between she and Brax have even from the beginning how it grew from friends. It felt more like a Young Adult story that grew to a New Adult there are subtle differences. And I felt the change happen. Gracie really held herself up I liked how strong she stayed and how much she stood up for herself. I wasn’t sure she would but she surprised me.

Brax I think still needs work but overall him as a leading man grew on me as well.

I liked the narration a lot, I loved the accent and I really like that when Gracie repeats it in her head it’s with his accent I 100% believe audiobook is the way to go with this book it really just added that extra touch.

Top of my List

This one is right up there with Beautiful Disaster. It’s not a dysfunctional relationship and Brax is a book boyfriend you can bring home to your mom, but he’s just as full and compelling as a character as Travis Maddox, maybe moreso. Hopefully, Cindy Mills has many more stories to tell. I’ll be here to listen.

Accents made it all confusing

I couldn't finish it. I couldn't keep up with who was suppose to be talking because of the accents.

Not Too Stupid

- I was a little dismayed at how this story treated Olivia’s assault - why her assaulter could follow her to school and why videos kept surfacing. It clouded my view of the rest of the story.

"WOW! WOW! WOW!!!! INCREDIBLE!!!"

Wow! Okay! Where do I start? First, let me say that this book is my first introduction to Cindy Miles' work: and let me tell you she didn't fail delivering everything I anticipate encountering in a contemporary (YA) novel. This book is a GREAT coming-of-age novel; very relatable to real life situations. I. COULDN'T. PUT. IT. DOWN. It for sure, was an emotional roller coaster of angst, heartache and triumph over dark pasts. I LOVED how Cindy used metaphor's to draw her readers into each scene: I could sense, feel, touch, and taste everything the MC's where feeling with her use of 'punchy' words. (((SPOILER ALERT!!!))) The ONLY 'pet-peeve' I have with this book was the antagonist's (seemingly unquenchable) resilience: he never went away, not even when threatened. Which made me quite perturbed. I also didn't like how the antagonist (Kelsey) never got dealt with through judicial ramifications accordingly. He was just slapped on his wrist and given a pass because of his family's affluence. I guess the caveat is: this kind of (rape culture) scenario happens frequently in everyday life. A hash truth but real! All-in-all, it was a spectacular read that I thoroughly enjoyed. And I plan to enjoy many more books from this author. 5-STAR'S✨all the way!!

Emotional rollercoaster

I really liked the story line of this book. The story has a dynamic aspect of a young woman who survives a trauma while dealing with additional sidesteps as she tries to reinvent herself. Both the male and female lead have a nice background that's expressed well. It helps you want to root for both characters. I will sometimes purchase the Kindle version to reread, however, this book is a little steep for what I normally pay. I plant to re-listen without the Kindle purchase.

The narrator is ok. I love her voice for the male lead who has a Bostonian accent. You just sort of fall a little more in love with him. The girl, not so much. I can't tell if it's the way the narrator reads her story or if it's the actual way she's written. Either way, you want to smack her a bit. It causes something to be lost in terms of the connection with her. I would try something from this narrator again to test which way it rolls.
