Summary

“The plot twists ingeniously...an engaging, often chilling book.” - The New York Times Book Review

A writer in California. A doctor in Boston. A motel owner and his employee in Nevada. A priest in Chicago. A robber in New York. A little girl in Las Vegas. They’re a handful of people from across the country, living through eerie variations of the same nightmare.

A dark memory is calling out to them. And soon they will be drawn together, deep in the heart of a sprawling desert, where the terrifying truth awaits...

What a slog - too long

Well written but waay too long…. All wrapped up super quick… there was just no need.. half the time would have been more than enough… or better suited as a short story … only finished it as I’d already invested so much time…

Lots of listening for your money or credit

Dick Hill turns in a grand performance here. The story is pretty slow and steady at the start and introduces some characters who are important and some not, but it all builds to a bigger picture.

The second half is far faster paced and as things become clearer the story develops well. The ending is a little quick as if Koontz didn't know how to finish it, but would have been nice for a 12 months later type prologue.

Worthy of owning

Meh

Turned it off. Takes forever for anything to happen. You just have to persevere too long to understand the point of the book. Not a thriller.

Loved this book

Really enjoyed this book, kept me enthralled and guessing the whole way through. Really liked the narration too, very passionate.

Good until……..

I enjoyed this book. It will be a bit protracted for people who like fast paced action, but I enjoyed it. You think you know what happened and who the baddies are, quite early on, but there is a twist. The very end of the book was a let down. It feels as if the author just didn’t know how to finish it off. The Happily Ever After ending is beginnerish and a disappointment at the conclusion of an otherwise good story.

Great story, narritive flaws.

If you could sum up Strangers in three words, what would they be?

Great, some issues

What three words best describe Dick Hill’s performance?

Overall a good performance, but he does have a touch of the William Shatner's at times.

Just WAAAY too much waffling...

The story is ok but the first half just describes the fear of the main players in painfully long-winded ways. Also, the narrator was really not great. Weird stilting. And his 'women' all sounded the same - all a bit twee.

Long but never boring.

Finished it after first starting it in 1987. Went back to it.
Worth it. Excellent.

Great story well narrated. Held me throughout. Satisfying ending and will look for more Dean Koontz.
