Sally Diamond cannot understand why what she did was so strange. She was only doing what her father told her to do, to put him out with the rubbish when he died.

Now Sally is the centre of attention, not only from the hungry media and police detectives, but also a sinister voice from a past she cannot remember. As she begins to discover the horrors of her childhood, Sally steps into the world for the first time, making new friends and big decisions, and learning that people don't always mean what they say.

But who is the man observing Sally from the other side of the world? And why does her neighbour seem to be obsessed with her? Sally's trust issues are about to be severely challenged . . .

If Liz Nugent was a clockmaker she'd be Galileo . . . She is as excellent a writer as anyone living I can think of (Sebastian Barry)

Liz Nugent dares to go where many won't. What a compelling storyteller she is. Always challenging. I laughed out loud only to recoil from my laughter as the story unfolded. For this is wickedly dark territory.
And yet amidst the darkness, she allows a light to glimmer - that of a diamond'

It's a sad and dark story about peadophilia and trauma. I couldn't stop listening though, it's so well written. And the narration is excellent.
Why I gave the story-part 4 stars is because I didn't like the ending at all. Will it be a sequel? The story really need a satisfactory ending.

A well written story about paedophilia and trauma.

Extremely good story, well written. Riveting. However I would have expected some sort of warning about the violence, rape and peadophilia which is a focal to the story. I wouldn’t have bought it if I have known.. having said that I do not regret reading it. I imagine it would come as a shock to most and could be very triggering for some.

Cation.. violence, rape and peadophilia

I really enjoyed this story all the way through- that is until the end! I feel like the author let down Sally who had come so far. It was like she was a growing flower that was plucked suddenly and thrown in the bin. What a waste!

Ending is huge letdown

This is a great story. I genuinely found a couple of the characters the most unpleasant I’ve ever come across. Well performed. Really sad when I finished it.

Very disturbing

This story grabs your attention from the first moment, although it has dark subject matter. The story has two timelines, the present and the past moving to meet the present. It engaged me totally, great narration, didn’t want it to end.
