'This book is a joy to read, unlocking every bit of delicious promise in the premise' B&N Sci-Fi & Fantasy Blog

Meet Greta Helsing, doctor to the undead.

After inheriting a highly specialised, and highly peculiar, medical practice, Dr Helsing spends her days treating London's undead for a host of ills: vocal strain in banshees, arthritis in barrow-wights and entropy in mummies. Although barely making ends meet, this is just the quiet, supernatural-adjacent life Greta's dreamed of since childhood.

But when a sect of murderous monks emerges, killing human undead and alike, Greta must use all her unusual skills to keep her supernatural clients - and the rest of London - safe.

There are . . . few heroines as well-written and compelling as Greta Helsing'

A modern vampire story. Exciting and imaginative although our Dr Greta, a professional physician, has the emotions of a teenager. However although Suzannah Hampton has a lovely voice, it's the same lovely voice for everyone, even though we are told that one character has an American accent, another a Scottish accent, and others who can only speak broken English.

Good story, pity about the reader

A fascinating story, gripping, convoluted, unusual, intriguing.

Beautifully read though at times I think pauses between paragraphs and scenes could have been more pronounced. Changes in scenes weren't clear and confused because of this.

What do I say...?

This probably my favourite listen of the year so far.

I loved the characters old and new. The monsters were fun, and plot was enjoyable, if you didn't look too hard.

I thought the narrator worked very well for the story, the cool calm voice worked very well for me. Greta is a cool character who thinks things through rather than just reacting. I felt the voice of the narrator worked because it felt like Greta was narrating.

My only problem was that I listened to the book at every opportunity, so I finished it really quickly and now I have to wait to see if there will be a third book. (though I might go back and listen to the first book again :) )

Wonderful

Maybe because I'm English, I just wasn't taken by the narrator's voice. I need characters!

Voice acting lacking

I really enjoyed this book and now can not wait for the next instalment. I hadn't heard of this author prior to this and had no expectations, but I would now highly recommend.

Surprisingly good read!
