About this listen

'This book is a joy to read, unlocking every bit of delicious promise in the premise' B&N Sci-Fi & Fantasy Blog

Meet Greta Helsing, doctor to the undead.

After inheriting a highly specialised, and highly peculiar, medical practice, Dr Helsing spends her days treating London's undead for a host of ills: vocal strain in banshees, arthritis in barrow-wights and entropy in mummies. Although barely making ends meet, this is just the quiet, supernatural-adjacent life Greta's dreamed of since childhood.

But when a sect of murderous monks emerges, killing human undead and alike, Greta must use all her unusual skills to keep her supernatural clients - and the rest of London - safe.

There are . . . few heroines as well-written and compelling as Greta Helsing'

Loved this, great story and narration. Only small niggle, the lack of a pause between a change of some scenes and character viewpoints made for slight disorientation but loved the story and the narrator is excellent.

Loved this!

Good world building, but the story is rushed. hope there is more books that continues the story. other wise the world building was wasted

Feels like the first part of a 3 part story

I quite enjoyed this book as, unlike in most supernatural novels, the monsters get sick. & not just 'oh no, I've been poisoned by silver because everyone knows that's a werewolf's cryptonite' sick. I mean 'I need to get a refill on my inhaler for COPD' sick. Exploring this world & how the monster hospital would work was a good change of pace.

I think I would have given this book 5 stars for story if it had been centered more in the hospital & not elsewhere as for me the medical aspect of treating supernatural creatures is this book's strength. As it is I give it a 4.

Alas, the narration was kind of a let down. The narrator's story telling voice is excellent, but I couldn't differentiate between the different characters at all. Additionally, not a long enough pause was given between scenes so I often didn't realise another one had started until a character popped up that hadn't been there a second ago & I had to backup a few times to make sense of it. Therefore 3 stars only for performance.

Overall, I enjoyed this book & would recommend it to others, but better to read instead of listen.

An enjoyable twist

I’m Really pleased I found this series, easy listening but could do with a slight pause between switching scenes

Good listen

Super narration of this fun but not frivolous gothic mystery. Puts Twilight to shame, the romance is subtle but nuanced. The writing is highly enjoyable as are the characters. I will be continuing with the series. Recommended.
