Story
Golden Fox, a girl barely turned woman, is pursued by her hairy-face father, who will stop at nothing to find her, even if he has to destroy her entire band. He gives one of her relatives the “Poisoned Water,” and in return the woman burns down Golden Fox’s family’s lodges. The band is thus broken. Golden Fox’s grandfather, Eagle Thunder, never wanted to become leader of the band, but when the hairy-face’s poisoned water takes over the minds of many of his peoples, including the Elders, he has no choice. He must lead the remnants of the band or they will die.

Summary
In Book 3 of the saga of Shining Light's people, the listener is swept into the changing world of ancient Native America. The peace that Shining Light and his family have enjoyed in the Land of the Tall Trees is shattered by his young daughter. Dove's dream of mustangs, and of a young American Indian boy named Singing Stone, and his family known as the Mustang People, will not let her rest.
The coming of the wild mustangs blessed Singing Stone's people with a better way of life, and now these beautiful creatures are being slaughtered. Spurred on by the discovery of the yellow stone, the Hairy-Faces join with the Likes to Fight People to drive out other bands. What better way to weaken the Mustang People than to capture or kill the mustangs? Singing Stone and his family fight to protect them, but what can three do against many?
Far away in the Land of Tall Trees, Dove still dreams of the mustang boy. Certain that her destiny is to be with him, young Dove begs her father to take her to him, back out onto the dangerous grasslands. Will they arrive in time to save Singing Stone and his people?
When an attack by the Likes to Fight People leaves all of their possessions destroyed, Singing Stone and his family join the Blue Sky People, and together they become the Blue Sky Mustang People. Excellent series
This trilogy is one of the best I have read in the 55 years of reading about Native American history. The characters stay true throughout each book, you grow with them. Ruby Standing Deer is a most accomplished author and I am looking forward to another book .

Book set in Stones
Ruby Standing Deer is a indian name, it has to be. Anyways: Stones is a good novel. I love history, an i like that you here companies history and fiction! There wasn't a lot of action in the story, but that's okay. There is more in this what meats the eye. I like that it goes a bit slow. It goes a bit to slow at times. That is why it is not getting full score!
12 hrs and 48 mins never feel so long, Karen Rose Richter reads this slow. There you have it. A slow story read a bit slow. So saying that: This is a good read by Karen Rose Richter! So i could say nothing more negative about her.

Good for slower readers
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I love books about American Indians. But this one seemed for someone younger.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ruby Standing Deer again?
No. Felt the dialogue was too young.
How could the performance have been better?
If you had two performers reading so you could tell who was talking.
What character would you cut from Stones?
I don't know if I would cut any particular character.
Any additional comments?
This audiobook was provided by the author/narrator/publisher free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review.

A sweet story about life.
I really enjoyed this book, although I wasn't totally sure I would at first. The dialogue takes a bit to get used to and the naming conventions can get a little confusing. But it's a beautiful story. I enjoyed the characters and felt for them. There wasn't a lot of action in the story, but that's okay; the story is about being kind and full of love.
Karen Rose Richter did a great job with the character voices. The pace was terribly slow, however. Her voice is very soft and really complemented the emotions in the story.
