Gripping and fast paced

I really enjoy these, I had previously heard a couple on the radio but hadn't realised how many episodes there are, I have just got the later seasons too. As ever, some episodes are better than others but this is probably down to personal taste or content rather than anything else. I drive a lot and this is a great companion!

Loved it.

I'm incredibly hard to please when it comes to dramas. For me everything has to be there, great actors, a good story line that will keep me listening from the start, realistic scenarios and characters with depth. This has it all with a nice size of cast that's not too big, making it easier to take in and follow. If you have a bad memory (especially for names) this can be very helpful This is my second time listening to it. Doubtless I will come back to it again.

easy listening.

stone is a good policeman but a flawed man. there isn't enough character development to help me decide if I like him. a little bit too shouty and lacking humility. the stories are good but sometimes a little lazy (like honour killings and the mothers boyfriend who grooms the son). however. this series would lend itself v well to a TV adaptation and I would definitely watch it

A policeman’s lot...

So much violence, so many damaged souls...
This is Manchester or any other large city with all the people and social problems - the dark under belly of modern life. Gritty, violent and difficult for those who lives are touched by it including the police who try to keep the peace and the law.

It takes some time to understand the accents and sort out the various characters, but the stories are short and difficult not to hear to the end.

Good, gritty but I may follow the series
