Summary

Not as good as the first book in the series.
I liked the first book in the series but this one left me feeling a bit disappointed. It was just very difficult to get invested in the main characters and too many plot holes to ignore. In fact I skipped the final chapter when it reached the HEA ending because I had just lost interest.
It’s hard to know where this went wrong but sometimes I felt the writer was visualising a movie as she wrote. The book rushed from one action sequence to another only slowing for the sex scenes. Unlike other reviewers I did not mind the flashbacks and found moving between past and present easy to follow – probably due to the excellence of the narration – but I had lots of questions that were not answered.
Where was Kat, the h, while she was playing dead for six years? What did she do? How did she support herself? Why, exactly, did Kat come back? There was all this plot detail about a necklace with a hidden memory card but as Kat herself did not even know what was on the card (if anything) the fact that it featured so strongly in the plot was a bit silly. Everything centered around the fact that Kat had apparently disappeared to protect the H, but I could never figure out exactly how her disappearance achieved this, as the H went on with his life with a relatively high public profile, and did not even know that he was in possession of the memory card evidence. Which meant for six years he did nothing to keep it secure. But why did he then put a fake necklace up for auction (surely not something a reputable dealer would do) and give the original to his current “friend with benefits”? Besides, how did he get the necklace six years previously? Kat owned the necklace and she was killed in a car bomb. So how did the necklace get to the H? Why were so many bad guys trying to kill them both? I could not even figure why they tried to kill Kat back in Egypt at the beginning. She had all these suspicions about who was stealing from the Tombs, but no evidence or proof. So why was she suddenly such a threat to them all?
The final confrontation scene was just pathetic. The h sees the H lying unconscious on the ground in the dark so instantly puts down her gun to check on him; the baddie decides not to tie up the H after knocking him out, so of course he can come to the h’s rescue a few minutes later. Meanwhile after managing to torture and kill several people along the way, when the baddie ties up the h’s sister he does such a poor job she manages to wriggle free and escape.
I was looking forward to reading the rest of this series, but based on this one, I don’t think I’ll bother.

Brilliant enjoyed this book.I read a lot of books and have enjoyed every one of them keep up the good work.
