Summary

Here is the secret: Your happiness is entirely up to you. You can be happy no matter what happens to you and no matter what material things you have. Everything important is under your control.

Sound silly? That’s why you need this audiobook. The philosophy of Stoicism has helped people for thousands of years and is one of the bases for several modern techniques of psychology, such as CBT. It teaches us how to understand our place in the world and concrete techniques for making us better.

This audiobook will go through the philosophy of Stoicism from A to Z. We will learn about what the good life means and how to achieve it. We will talk about ways to develop self-control and specific practices that can help you gain peace and tranquility.

Most people spend their life being buffeted by outside forces, shaken about by emotions and things they do not understand. Stoicism will help you gain the foundation that allows you to avoid being unsettled by outside things. We will learn how to tell the difference between things that are up to us and things that are not and learn to let go of things we cannot control.

  • Fight your damaging emotions and learn to gain peace and tranquility regardless of what happens to you.
  • Understand what it means to live a good life and how you can recognize what good things you already have.
  • Learn what it is to be “virtuous” and how you can be a better person each and every day.
  • Develop a habit of self-control that can help you conquer any obstacle in your path.
  • Study logic and gain an understanding of what is within our ability to know.
  • Find peace and tranquility in your life, no matter what happens.
  • Stoicism has brought happiness and flourishing to countless people, from Roman emperors to slaves. It can bring happiness to you, too.

Some miracle cures promise that they can make your life better with three easy steps or a simple change in diet. This isn’t that. The only person that can make your life better is you, and this audiobook will help you see the way.

Written in an accessible tone but informed by the deepest and most rigorous research, this audiobook combines a scholarly analysis of Stoic philosophy with specific tools you can use right now to help you gain a better understanding of yourself and your place in the world.

Great audio book

Excellent, informative, and useful read into "how to live a good life". I've long been interested in Stoic philosophy, and this book goes in depth into the ideas, how and why they're useful, and how to apply them. The practices are great - this is one of those books worth re-listen every couple years to remind ourselves how to think and live a good life.

Amazing audio book

This was a disappointing purchase, I've listen better Audible sophomore term papers. Go read the Enchiridon instead, all this college student does is regurgitate a tier two philosophy class he got a B in

very nice audio book

Amateur. A bad little book of shallow thinking. The fact that the author referred to greek terms as "scary" was my first clue that this would be truly awful.

Amazing audio book

There is a wide range of Stoicism books out there. Most are boring and are either weighted too heavily on philosophical history or simply not entertaining to listen .

I like it audio book

That is not to say I am not getting benefit from the explanations of Stoicism. I am. It is just the feeling of 'deja vu' really throws the flow of the listen , I think I must have lost my place and am re-listen the same section.

good audio book

While I am enjoying the information in the book. I am finding that the author makes a point in a paragraph and then in the next is immediately restating that point. At first I thought it might be he just wanted to emphasize the thought, but I don't think so.

Very well audio book

There was so much info packed into this quick listen . Theory, practice & guidance. Perfect for a noob Stoic like myself. The best section for me was the 'hands-on' section, titled "Preparing Practices".

Excellent audio book-

This young man would do well to spend more time studying. Often times I feel he misses the target. Better to just listen Aurelius and Epictetus, and if you need that explained get Eric LaCords book. It needed to be said.

Based on all the good reviews, I had high hopes for this book. Until I started reading it and discovered it was Audible by a college student. It listen like a term paper with an air of arrogance

Excellent audio book

The author takes a few gratuitous swipes at Trump, in the same vein as his fellow boy-philosopher, Holiday, exalts Alinsky and Obama. If you believe that this kind of sophomoric stuff belongs in a book on stoic philosophy, then this is right up your alley.

I love this audio book.

This is easier listen than much that is a good introduction to Stoicism. And a book with a wider perspective, as a beginners book. If you want a good introduction to Stoicism that is eminently affordable, surprisingly wide in scope, and that helps you understand well - this could be among the best that you can buy as a book for a beginner.

Beautiful audio book

I picked up this book on a whim, I've never contemplated stoicism and it's place (or absence) in my life. If I'm being completely honest, I may not have understood what exactly stoicism really meant. This pocket sized book isn't quite a self-help guide

Really nice audio book

This book is great for studying stoicism. I like being able to focus on certain things at a time before moving on to practice other lessons.
