Like it !

A good writer can simplify complex material and Alexander has accomplished this. Thank you for a great addition to the philosophy that I'm sure will be around for a long time. I like how the book gives cutting edge instances of how to apply this way of thinking today by day life.

Stoicism is new to me, and it complements other modalities like cognitive-behavioral therapy or Buddhism/mindfulness. I'm excited to explore this subject more. The author makes the topic both accessible and intriguing, and for that I am grateful!

Great Introduction To Stoicism

I'm really glad I did as it's excellent. It's very well written, making the subject accessible, but without oversimplifying it. It does a good job of introducing Stoicism and explaining the philosophy's history before getting into the nitty-gritty of practical advice. And this is where the book comes into its own - the practices are both varied and useful.

A beautiful book.

A beautiful book. Full of the age-old wisdom that is still relevant to us in today's chaotic world. I love the style the book is written in, and the honesty of the author's writing. The abundant quotes from Stoic Masters are truly thought-provoking. I love this book. It is one I will treasure, and read many times. Thank you. Illustrations are spot on and complete the experience!

Excellent reading, very accessible.

This is an excellent book for those interested in learning more about Stoicism, the book is very accessible and easy to understand. As a psychotherapist, I have recommended this book to peers and clients alike. Although I always wanted to be an Epicurean I have had to face facts that I'm Stoic in my approach to life.

A gentle introduction

The book offers an introduction into stoicism, explains the history and the key thinkers behind the philosophy in case you want to delve a little deeper in the future. It also offers a few exercises to help you behave in a more stoic manner. Recommended both as a reader and as a philosophy to follow.

This is a wonderful read.

Every time I pick it up it's like my mind is being healed a little bit more. and to know that it was a way of thinking followed by some of the most powerful and wise people in history … there must be something really important here. Especially when the world seems to be so lacking in decency and so deeply contaminated by sick thinking from west to east at the moment. We all need stoic wisdom more than ever. Lovely book. Get it - listen to it - be it.

Simple yet powerful

It's a fantastic book with simple, yet powerful descriptions of the most important Stoic assumptions. Great guide for both those not very familiar with the philosophy, but also those, that maybe have read a lot about it but still need some sort of structuring of the knowledge gained. It's easily worth 10 times the price. Buy it now!

Good book.

The book is written as a historical document outlining the birth of stoicism and its practice in Western culture, while at the same time, teaching the tenants of its philosophy in clear, everyday English. This philosophy has changed my life in such a positive way and has helped me to keep my sanity and live a better life.

Wonderful experience

Omg!! I enjoyed reading this book!! I love reading. The part I found most helpful are the exercises that help you practice the philosophy to improve your life. Rather than reading thousands of pages across many books on the topic to then figure out how to practice it, I recommend learning it by doing it through the use of these exercises. Great book--highly recommended!

Wonderful Book...!!

If you want a good introduction to Stoicism that is eminently affordable, surprisingly wide in scope, and that helps you understand well - this could be among the best that you can buy as a book for a beginner. Or even if your studies are at a more intermediate level, I believe you will find this very good. The best way to describe the book in my opinion. The book is like a course from a great teacher on stoicism.

Superb text with a very useful introduction

A must-have for any Stoic practitioner. This is one of the most practical handbooks on self-motivation I have read in recent years. I was so pleased that I purchased a copy for a friend, who similarly enjoyed it. I plan to go back to this handbook time and again.

Life changing book...

very, very good. Wonderful, as it's given me a manual, that I can return to, at all times. Clear & practically formatted, so that one can be sure to be guided through the, 'HOW TO ensure being able to apply the principles of Stoicism into your life & behavior.' Everyone in the world 🌎 should read this book, (or rather apply stoicism into your life). The author deserves my utter praise for producing a book that brings to us all of the major stoic/ancient teachings and principles together in one brilliantly written work.

My honest review

The book is interwoven with relevant quotes from the masters and is peppered with delightful pictures. I enjoyed the fact that the book was solely concerned with Stoicism and did not digress onto other philosophies nor psychological approaches. Stoicism was good enough for Emperor Marcus Aurelius and it’s good enough for me. Already I feel I am beginning to reap the benefits of this book and since I will refer to it frequently.

Fantastic and inspiring

The writer is very clear in what he is trying to convey and the book is easy to digest. I have suffered anxiety most of my life but reading this book I felt as though there was an internal shift in my perspective. Each time I feel worry I recall the teachings in this book or go back to a specific section that I highlighted (which was most of the book, to be honest). It has helped me profoundly and further ignited my interest in stoicism.
