Summary

The adventure continues....

Ordained by an ancient goddess of mercy and light, former knight Allystaire Coldbourne has become a paladin, a hero out of legend. But evil stalks him, angry gods align against him, and greedy warlords want him dead.

With the help of his friends, each blessed with extraordinary powers by the Goddess, Allystaire must escape the clutches of sorcerers and wicked rulers who will stop at nothing to destroy him as he continues his dangerous quest to bring peace and unity to the fractured and war-torn Baronies. With the Longest Night of mid-winter approaching, the Goddess weakens and armies march - armies determined to bring destruction and horror to the paladin and all who follow him. Allystaire is soon left with only his powers, his handful of friends, and his mission to be a beacon of hope, still and bright, in the encroaching darkness.

If I could give 6 stars for the performance I would!

Great story and character progression. Thoroughly enjoyable but lifted to the superb by Michael Kramer, who can make your heart swell with his storytelling. Roll on book 3!!

Interesting and compelling

Always love this narrator, he really makes a story come to life and makes connecting to characters so much easier.
The story was compelling, I wanted to listen in one sitting. Some parts of the story I found a bit samey but as I have listened to lots of stories from this genre that can happen so not too much of a problem. The inventive way that the author continues the characters of Gods and Goddesses is intriguing and pulls you into how it feels to have unwavering faith yet still have human doubts.
Overall this is definitely worth listening too and I would highly recommend to any fans of the genre.

easy listen. great pace.

As far as Dungeons and Dragons style fantasy goes, this is a great book and series. Not too complicated that you have to stop what you're doing to focus on it.

What a GREAT 2nd Installment!!!

There is nothing I enjoy more than a trilogy that exceeds the first start! I loved the 1st book and this follow up exceeded my already high expectations! I’m ready a probable year early, as in right now for the next book!

The plot unfolds in a very fast paced but nuanced manner. The battle scenes were intense, characters further explored and delved into, more characters introduced, more interesting facets of magic & the goddess and her “will”. The end is not a cliffhanger but it leaves you drooling for the next book with soooo many questions but in a very good way! This is not a romance novel at all - but one comment on the relationship I hope doesn’t happen but (nail biter) prob will... the main character, the arm of the goddess Alistar. And this is for the author if he’s reading this; Please don’t let him get involved with Fortunes priestess...unless he cuts her throat lol
Like I said , not a romance novel but Alistar in all of his imperfectness has grabbed my attention & now my heart & I feel protective of him lol !
