About this listen

The adventure continues....

Ordained by an ancient goddess of mercy and light, former knight Allystaire Coldbourne has become a paladin, a hero out of legend. But evil stalks him, angry gods align against him, and greedy warlords want him dead.

With the help of his friends, each blessed with extraordinary powers by the Goddess, Allystaire must escape the clutches of sorcerers and wicked rulers who will stop at nothing to destroy him as he continues his dangerous quest to bring peace and unity to the fractured and war-torn Baronies. With the Longest Night of mid-winter approaching, the Goddess weakens and armies march - armies determined to bring destruction and horror to the paladin and all who follow him. Allystaire is soon left with only his powers, his handful of friends, and his mission to be a beacon of hope, still and bright, in the encroaching darkness.

Great story and character progression. Thoroughly enjoyable but lifted to the superb by Michael Kramer, who can make your heart swell with his storytelling. Roll on book 3!!

If I could give 6 stars for the performance I would!

Always love this narrator, he really makes a story come to life and makes connecting to characters so much easier.
The story was compelling, I wanted to listen in one sitting. Some parts of the story I found a bit samey but as I have listened to lots of stories from this genre that can happen so not too much of a problem. The inventive way that the author continues the characters of Gods and Goddesses is intriguing and pulls you into how it feels to have unwavering faith yet still have human doubts.
Overall this is definitely worth listening too and I would highly recommend to any fans of the genre.

Interesting and compelling

The Temple, now established, has drawn more people to the little village of Thornhurst.

Now that Allystaire has found all of the Mother’s disciples, they must return to the village to reinforce its defences in preparation for the battle to come. This will be no ordinary battle and will test even the strongest. All is at stake as the Longest Night of Midwinter approaches.

This is a trilogy that doesn’t rush, but continues at a steady pace for the listener to savour.
