Summary

Diverse, dark-humored, and deliciously bite-sized: JT Lawrence ratchets up the tension with this compelling collection of short stories perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn and Roald Dahl.

"Gatsby’s Double" - An artist’s Pomeranian has been replaced by an imposter.

"Court, Marry, Kill" - Whose body ends up being unzipped by fish on the ocean floor?

"Rockabye Baby" - A female-only cult has a very dark side.

"He Did It" - A detective relies on his gut (and his hallucinations) to help him solve murder cases.

"The Brain Bleacher" - He can remove your pain by hacking your memory, but his own suffering is here to stay.

If you're a fan of Roald Dahl or Gillian Flynn you'll love this collection of unsettling stories with a twist in the tale. Get it now.

Father Christmas Saves The Day.

Another fab collection of short stories from this author. With another awesome narrator. The one about the little girl and the teacher really pulled at my heart. I couldn't stop thinking of the mother. Highly recommend.

Great mix

Enjoyable short stories and love the fact that they just state ‘the end’ and then moves on rather than stopping and making you load the next one as I find that problematic when driving. Quite a few stories have stuck in my mind. Recommended

More please.

As always I start with the fact I was given this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review. And I am honest, I get really excited when the review opps for JTL come up. I'm a big fan of short stories in general and these didn't disappoint. I'm getting more used to the way her mind works but while I'm busy looking out for the twist a different one smacks me in the face 😆. Lovely to visit a familiar character from her novels in one of the stories. Lovely to have Roshina Ratnam narrating, I was disappointed on another that wasn't her.
More please.

An enjoyable listen

Another good collection of stories. I enjoyed listening to them. I like this author and will probably read/listen to more of her stories at another time. I am sure others will enjoy them as well. I would recommend it to those who enjoy this genre of books.

The colour of new beginnings.

( Format : Audiobook )
"The colour of new beginnings. "
Sticky Fingers is more than a collection of short stories. It is a coming together of a small group of individuals, each with some strange quirk which the author brings vividly to life for the reader. Not necessarily always likable, each is, however, interesting and well worth getting to know. It is a remarkable experience.
The titles included, in order of presentation, are:-
Panama Wings
Gadsby's Double
Astrid
Globe Trotter '69as
Caught, Marry, Kill
Can we light a fire?
He Did It.
Alpha power
Rockabye Baby
Dasher
Cuckerluck
Brain Bleacher
Each story is read, in this second series, by Toshiba Rotnam, her voice crystal clear, pleasant on the ear and delivered with perfect adherence to the text. A lovely performance.

Definitely recommended

Intriguing collection!

I'm fairly new to Audible and definitely new to short stories. I've always been one for delving into a novel and being transported away for hours but Audible fills little chunks of my day where I'm too busy to read but able to be swept away for short spells of time...so this collection of short stories really spoke to me(!)

Each story is intriguing, thought provoking, well written, quirky and excellently read by the narrator. I am simply in awe of her beautiful accent which bring the stories to life. I would recommend JT Lawrence to anyone to try and I will definitely be hoping to purchase some other works!

A Dark , interesting and quirky collection

I have read/listened to a number of books by JT Lawrence and they never fail to disappoint.
I love compilations of short stories that I can listen to in bite size chunks , but sometimes i find that the author adds a lot of filler stories. This is not the case with any of the sticky finger collections. Each story is dark sometimes funny and quirky which stand out in your mind for time to come. Every story is of quality content. yes you will enjoy some more than others but every single one is a great standalone piece

Great Read

Sticky Fingers 2: Another 12 Twisted Short Stories (Sticky Fingers Collection) by J.T. Lawrence was a great read. It consisted of twelve great short stories by the author. Panama Wings; Gatsby’s Double; Astrid; GlobeTrotter69; Court Marry Kill; Can We Light a Fire?; He Did It; Alpha Lyrae; Rockabye Baby; Dasher; Kakkerlak and The Brain Bleacher. I loved reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

Explosion of creativity

I’m not a short story kind of reader, but after loving the first book I needed to listen to the second part, and I have to say that I love it as much as the first book. Janita surprises us again with an explosion of creativity, charismatic characters, and very special plots.

Some stories are an answer to stories in the first book. I enjoyed meeting the hotel reviewer again, and also the detective with his imaginary friend. Rockabye Baby reminded me a lot of the world in When Tomorrow Calls, and The Brain Bleacher could just be the gist of a greater story. These twelve stories tickled my imagination like sparks on a dark night.

This time it’s Roshina Ratnam who narrates the book. I like the previous narrator, but meeting Ratnam again was a pleasant surprise. She is also the narrator of the When Tomorrow Calls series, and I have to say that I love her powerful style. She transports the listener to far away worlds and traps you with her distinctive voice. Her character interpretations are top notch, and especially enjoyed how she pronounced ‘kakkerlak’. I speak a bit of Dutch, so it’s always nice how Dutch words are pronounced in other parts of the world.

There is yet another book with twelve more short stories. I’m impatient to listen to those.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Excellent collection of stories

Spilling the truth, I enjoy short story collections and this follows on very well from sticky fingers one. You expect a few average stories and maybe one or 2 you don’t enjoy in a full collection usually, but this isn’t the case as every story is interesting and enjoyable.
The narrator is excellent and I only noticed a South African accent when she talked about specific items and actions that only occur in that country.
Many of the stories are just as surprising as the 1st collection with many veering towards issues of mental capacity in one way or another. Just because one story starts out in a certain manner doesn’t mean it is going to end with your original expectations.
The complaints story, leading on from the trip advisor review in sticky fingers one, is great and inventive. I was quite worried about the robot story until it all became clear. I did guess where the Astrid story was going but was still very surprised when it got there. Monica and Curtis were highly entertaining and the story ends with the right result. The brain bleacher could easily be extended into a full novel.
I was given a free copy of the audiobook and enjoyed listening to the stories on the way back from the school run. It hasn’t affected my review and I look forward to downloading sticky fingers 3 to continue listening to more short stories by this author. Every story in this collection was at least good listen to, but most were great. The narrator is excellent!

With a wide variety of settings including a diverse set of characters this is a collection worth listening to.

Great short stories

If I were asked which one of the stories stood out among all the others I would have to say it was the one of the mother who drops her daughter at school daily and than one day she goes to pick her up and the school is gone.
All the stories are though provoking and makes you try to figure out the end but you never can.
I was given this free for an honest review from the author or narrator.

Eclectic Collection!

12 Stories so diverse in tone, length, and subject, yet all will grip you, just in different ways! The narration is good but I did have some occasions when it was difficult hearing her voice move from one character to the next, so just a little confusing once in a while. I gotta hand to JT, out of 12, 10 were great and other 2 just really good! ;-)

12 Diverse and Intriguing Stories That Make You Think

Each and every one of the 12 stories is thought provoking, interesting, entertaining, and varying. I couldn’t stop listening..waiting to find out what was in store next.
Just for example..Globetrotter 69 is humorous...comments and responses on Trip Advisor between a man who complains about his vacation and the totally different twist when seen through the eyes of the resort.
Astrid is a story of a woman who remembers, forgets and dreams about her little daughter. So sad and keeps you wondering what exactly is happening.
Caught, Marry and Kill involved the POV of a man and a girl who date...moving into a relationship, marriage and honeymoon with interesting twists.
Rock a Bye Baby made me think about the Handmaiden Tale, in a manner..again wondering where an place where only women live and avoid men.
What a wonderful writer and performed by a fantastic narrator that kept you involved in each and every story..use of perfect timing, emotion and storytelling.

Another Great Collection!!

This is a great collection of short stories. Not everyone will like them all but I did. I love JT Lawrence's ability to put so much into so few words. Here are my thoughts on the stories included in this collection:

01 - Panama Wings Best Laid Plans
This little short is about a woman missing. The deadly secret is a surprise and not what I expected. This is told from a former detective's point of view. There's a little bit of action, some mystery and an underlying feeling of sadness. The narration is done well. Roshina Ratnam gave the characters their own voices and helped to bring the story to life.

02 - Gatsby's Double Interesting
This short story is about an artist's dog named...yep, Gatsby. Although I can't say much about this story due to its very short time, it is worth your time to listen if you enjoy bite-sized stories. This one, as per Ms Lawrence's way, has a twist at the end to surprise you. The narration was done well and I enjoy Roshina Ratnam's ability to give life to even these little morsels.

03 - Astrid Heartwarming and Heartbreaking
This short story is told from Astrid's mother's point of view. We all worry as parents about our children. Is the school they're attending sound, up to standard, are the teachers qualified, etc. However, what happens when not everything is as it appears? The story is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. The narration is well done by Roshina Ratnam. She truly brings the emotions of the characters through making this a wonderful listening experience.

04 - Globetrotter 69 Absolutely Hilarious!
This short story is a parody to the short story The Traveling Slacks in Sticky Fingers Vol 1. This one is quite a bit more comedic than the other. The narration was alright. The male voice of the MC is not much of a male's voice unlike other times Ms Ratnam has voiced the male characters. Still, this had me chuckling from beginning to end.

05 - Court, Marry, Kill Another Great Short Story
This short story is about a man and woman and their journey together. It's really cool how JT Lawrence gives both points of view of each interaction. I loved the ending and thought it quite appropriate. The narration was well done by Roshina Ratnam.

06 - Can We Light a Fire Loved It!
This is a short giving us a glimpse into the making of a pyromaniac. Most of it is telling us what is going on inside a young girl's mind as she lights fires and watches them. A bit creepy but interesting. The story ends with the young girl being a woman and the twist I did not see coming. The narration was well done by Roshina Ratnam. She has such a lovely voice.

07 - He Did It The Hallucinating Detective Once Again
This is a second story with the hallucinating detective investigating another crime. He's at another crime scene but this time evidence points to a fellow cop. Is the fellow cop the perpetrator or the victim or possibly both? You'll have to listen to find out. I would like to a longer story dealing with the detective. I would love to know how Dom came to be. What happened to make the detective the way he is? The narration is well done and Roshina Ratnam helps to bring the story to life. I love JT Lawrence's short stories. Not everyone can write such shorts and keep them interesting but she manages very well.

08 - Alpha Lyrae Reminiscent of Blade Runner
This is a short short about a young man falling for a robot. This little snip-it is reminiscent of Blade Runner. I won't say anything else so not to give anything away. It would be curious if the author makes this one a longer story in the future. I would certainly be interested in hearing it. Roshina Ratnam does a great job with the narration. Each character was given their own voice and emotions.

09 - Rockabye Baby Beware the Kindness of Strangers
This is a short story about a young unwed pregnant woman. She turns to strangers to help her through her pregnancy. I had a feeling about the ending and, for once, I was on point, dark side indeed. The narration was well done by Roshina Ratnam.

10 - Dasher The Christmas Spirit
This is a story about a Santa Claus and his life Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Sometimes the Christmas time of the year is the worst time of our lives but then, sometimes, the Christmas spirit shines through. I loved the ending, totally not what I expected. The narration was well done and helped to bring the emotions to life for the listener.

11 - Kakkerlak Apocalyptic
An interesting look at a single soul looking back at their apocalyptic life and trying to come to terms with their new existence. Ms Lawrence does a wonderful job creating an apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic world. Using her words creatively to intertwine the two without being melodramatic. Once again Roshina Ratnam gives the story life. The listener cannot help but feel what the character feels. An interesting listen about what consequences our decisions in life can bring us in the next life.

12 - The Brain Bleacher Prelude to The Memory Hacker
This is a wonderful short that is a prelude to the full story The Memory Hacker. A brain bleacher or memory hacker, whichever you want to call him, can help everyone else but himself. You should listen to this story and if you like it then check out The Memory Hacker. It's a wonderful story that has a surprise ending which should be expected considering who the author is! JT Lawrence is a master at twisting things around to where the ending is no where near what you thought it would be. She's one of my favorite authors! The narration is well done. Roshina Ratnam is an excellent narrator who really knows how to bring a story and all its intricacies to life.
