  • Summary

  • Stephen Fry travels into the most remarkable place we know - our brain. The organ of knowledge and the one we know least about.

Over 12 episodes Stephen explores just how much we’ve learned about this mysterious structure in recent years and tries to answer some of the most difficult questions that remain.

To do this, we relay the discoveries and stories of neuroscientists, psychologists, anthropologists and even philosophers, to add illumination and perspective as we travel. Each episode will be full of brainy stories: some shocking, some thrilling, some scarcely believable.

Ruined by intrusive music and sounds

The content is quite basic, which is ok - but the loud and intrusive music renders the listening experience really stressful. Stephen Fry's reading is perfect as usual; but rather vandalised in this case.

Brilliant ... as ever!

I've listened to Stephen Fry for years and I always enjoy his podcasts and audiobooks - Hitchhiker's Guide and 7 Deadly Sins being particular favourites. In fact his name on the title of a podcast is usually enough to engage me; the breadth of his interests and depth of his knowledge are impressive even for a polymath.
And I always come away knowing a lot more.
Stephen's conversational style and a lightness of tone are very easy to listen to - I raced through all ten episodes of Inside Your Mind, he held my attention for some hours over a couple of days.
I'm not an expert but I'm particularly interested the subject matter. Inside Your Mind is appropriately straightforward for the every-person listener and I thoroughly recommend it on all fronts!

Background music needs to be removed please!!

Great content, Stephen Fry is exceptional as always but the background music meant that I struggled to hear him at times and in turn made it very hard for me to continue listening which is a shame as I was looking forward to it.
I can tell that thought was put into the music as it does follow the narration but that is why it's so distracting I think it would be the perfect music for a visual representation of Inside Your Mind but not so much for the audio only version.

Can't listen to it- the music makes it too painful

I love Stephen Fry's audio books and would've loved this, but the loud, strange background music is so obnoxious that I can't bear to listen. What a waste.

Trying to listen to a lecture drowned out by elevator music

Did no one outside of this production listen to it before running with it?
Maybe I’m in a minority, but I find the tinkles and winkles in the back ground impossibly distracting while considering Steven’s words and ideas.
I look forward to a re-release, without the music.

Utterly spoiled by the background

Why oh why does Amazon keep ruining its offer with distracting background noises. You cant even call it music. So much better when for no apparent reason it stopped. Then it started again. So i switched it off, too annoying.

Amazing as always

Stephen is amazing as always and I find the background music relaxing for some people saying that it is annoying I can understand why as well

Fascinating, accessible and beautifully read

No idea why people are complaining about the music: it doesn't detract from the content at all. The episode themes are well thought out and Stephen Fry makes it enjoyable to listen to.

Where is episode 12?

Stephen Fry always picks very interesting topics. Very well done, thoroughly researched and well narrated. Just wondering where the last episode is.

Fascinating

Stephen's wonderful deep voice, careful pronunciation, & keen intelligence are at top form here. He draws you in to his story (which is our story) & keeps you fascinated and hanging on every word.
I do hope that I can find a bibliography of the books he mentions.

Excellent

The entire series, as are most of Fry’s projects, is wonderfully engaging, well researched, and beautifully narrated. Stephen Fry can make any subject interesting and certainly doesn’t miss the mark with this series. The episodes flew by, leaving me wanting more.

Loved it, but where is the 12th episode? I especially liked the episode about sleep, it was fascinating.

Where's chapter 12? chapter 12 wasn't included. It stopped at chapter 11. I wanted to be able to finish the whole "book"

Episode 12???

I enjoyed this series very much but I suspect I would enjoy it even more if all the episodes were present. As with all of Mr. Fry’s other historical podcasts, this one is well researched and very interesting. I just wish I could hear the end of it!

A stunning series: One of the very best I have listened to

While training a a doctor and for many years afterwards I heard or read much of what Stephen Fry tells in his inimitable fashion. But what a difference his telling makes. I simply love it. It is an extraordinary series full of facts, kindness, fun, sadness and enjoyment. I can not recommend this enough.
