Story
For a decade, from 1973, the Golden State Killer stalked and murdered Californians in the dead of night, leaving entire communities afraid to turn off the lights. Then he vanished, and the case remained unsolved. In 1994, when cold-case investigator Paul Holes came across the old file, he swore he would unmask GSK and finally give these families closure. Twenty-four years later, Holes fulfilled that promise, identifying 73-year-old Joseph J. DeAngelo. Headlines blasted around the world: one of America's most prolific serial killers had been caught.

Story
What is it about killers, cults and cannibals that capture our imaginations even as they terrify and disturb us? How do we carefully consume these cases, and what can they teach us about what makes victims and their murderers our collective responsibility? Redhanded rejects the outdated narrative of killers as monsters and that a victim 'was just in the wrong place at the wrong time'. Instead, it dissects the stories of killers in a way that challenges perceptions and asks the hard questions about society, gender, poverty, culture and even our politics.

Story
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

This book is everything!
Karen and Georgia have created a space in which mental health, fascinations with the macabre, being vulnerable and making mistakes are all okay, and are bringing more people to the table to show who they are and what they stand for. I’m so proud to be part of this incredible community of listeners, and the book reflects what they stand for entirely.
Brave, beautiful, funny, emotional, and unashamedly themselves. Thank you Karen and Georgia for sharing your vulnerability with us and for giving us an insight into your own experiences; leading the way to show other badass women that you can do anything you put your mind to!
Bravo ladies, bravo!

Exactly right
Genuine, hilarious, nostalgic and deeply relatable, this audiobook was a perfect listen and a must for any listeners of MFM. Georgia and Karen reading their parts of the book themselves made this audiobook extra special due to the personal and vulnerable topics covered. Karen’s witty play-by-play of a typical latchkey kid afternoon made me laugh and talking about her mother and dementia made me cry and call my mum just to say hi.

I'm not sure what I thought the book would be. I think I guessed more favourite murders, the podcast written down somehow with pictures. But it turned out to be autobiography and empowering life lessons and surprises. I laughed and sobbed and pondered and was incredibly moved by Karen and Georgia's stories. I cried most of the way through but in a good way
Upfront I’ve gotta say: if you don’t love Karen and Georgia or their podcast or their accents then this isn’t for you. (I mean you should think about that because they’re objectively wonderful but that’s between you and your therapist).
I loved the references to their famous quotes, and how their anecdotes linked so cleverly to each chapter. I love that some of the parts are recorded from live readings, the audience being there feels a bit like the live show podcast episodes and I love it.
I respect their vulnerability, honesty and ability to share the sides of themselves that don’t make them look good. But sharing those things actually makes me know they are GREAT because they’ve put vanity aside so that we can all relate and feel better about the shitty parts of ourselves.
Anyway. I bought it yesterday and have listened twice so what more can I say?

Nothing new here
You won't really learn anything new from this book, I was hoping for more memoir and less self help. It's fine, it's pretty much just what you get on the podcast and stories you've already heard.
