Summary

One man's epic story of loyalty, perseverance, and hope in a galaxy at war. Now in a single volume.

Alliance Navy Commander Grayson Stone is patrolling a nearby space station when a mysterious starship appears. It emerges from a storm of fire, its shields impenetrable, its weapons overwhelming, attacking without provocation and annihilating everything in its path.

While his ship is badly damaged in the assault, Grayson manages to survive. Suddenly trapped behind the front line of the invasion, faced with gut-wrenching choices and near-impossible odds, he'll do whatever it takes to escape the grasp of the terrifying new enemy. Because if he fails, humankind will fall.

repeatedly mispronounced word

Great story, great twists. The word I believe was mispronounced was the word used to describe the Banshee ships metal. I think the word was patina, normally spoken as Pa-tee-na, not Pat-ta-na.

Great Story

This was a first-rate sci-fi tale. I could not give it five stars because I found the mistakes in grammar sometimes. jarring. It's okay for a person to speak incorrectly in the first person if that trait fits the story, but a narrator's grammar should be impeccable. Good editing could bring this to a five.

The worst of the worst.

I don't usually leave reviews but this was a truly fantastic heap of garbage. The amount of information the author hid in order to keep the story going because he couldn't come up with anything interesting was staggering. Most of the chapters were practically pointless to the main story and revolved around the main character revealing himself as "Odin Long Knife" GAG, the long lost hero of the Alliance.

The author implemented plenty of action scenes to tell as little of the story as possible and also looked for ways to tie the main character down so that he didn't have to advance the plot. These books were likely all sold separately at one point and I pity the fools who ever bought them in that manner because that would have been frustrating. Imagine buying all these books where nothing at all happened until the very last book, I'd feel like an idiot. Now I only feel like a quarter of an idiot since I bought the boxset for a credit.

The aliens themselves were a huge letdown, one of the worst examples of aliens on audiobook and that's a fact, Jack.

Also, whenever the main character had a question relevant to the plot, the only other character who knew anything would just smirk. It's actually funny the first four times or so and then I realized that the author just couldn't cut the cake and come up with anything.

Jeffrey Kafer was good but he couldn't save this one.

Forgettable

I honestly don't recall listening to this book. I just finished it and yet I don't recall a thing about it. Give me a second to listen to the preview to see if I can recall it. Nope, doesn't ring a bell. Save your credit. This book is boring and forgettable.

box set gets a bit tedious

The first book was okay, but going on and on into multiple books exposes issues with the writing. There's way, way too much convenient stuff that happens in order to advance the plot: Get used to million-to-one odds and coming out okay. Also get used to hundreds of repetitions of how much the main character loves his family. And get used to "Rosik and me" did this, that or the other thing.

Narration was fine, but it wasn't really a challenging assignment, as most of everything involves just the main character. The other prominent character mentioned above has a similar voice, but with an accent. So again, nothing outstanding.
