Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Summary
Launching from a precarious foothold on Fort Alliance, Catarina Vargus leads her fleet deep into hostile territory, trying to secure a base to support the fleet's operations against the brutal Apex menace. Scandian star wolves infest the sector, led by marauder captains who have vowed to eliminate the navy incursion into their territory.
When Catarina gets a signal from a battered navy destroyer limping in from the inner frontier, she takes a small task force to investigate, and is soon sucked into a civil war brewing among various Scandian factions.
Meanwhile, an Apex harvester ship has entered the sector, and threatens to bring its war of extermination back into human-controlled space.
The second book of the new sci-fi trilogy by Wall Street Journal best-selling author Michael Wallace, Star Wolf is an exciting space opera for both new listeners and fans of the best-selling Starship Blackbeard universe alike.

Weak and drawn out story line
Like many sci-if series the earlier books are much better. The later ones are full of drawn out and very similar space battles. They are described in painstaking detail. It’s repetitive, boring, and left me skipping to the next chapter too often. I really like the overall story but please cut out the padding.

A fast-paced space escapade!
No time or resources to waste in this exciting adventure! Forces are united against the Apex enemy that is ravaging humanity and Hroom mercilessly. The unpredictable Scandians, the fractured state of humanity, the continued onslaught of Apex terror, it's hard to imagine how our heroes will survive; they have some new tricks, but will it be enough?
The performance by Mr. Barnes is always immersive, clear, and concerned with detail. Characters show so much emotion in their voices and that's very important in a book with such high stakes (not to mention the huge cast). It's hard to pick a favorite voice but developed a soft spot for the young Scandian crew member, Yarn, who speaks with a bit of a speech impediment due to surviving the plague.
This was a wonderful companion on many walks and I quickly moved on to the next book once I finished this one. It's hard not to love the characters especially.

A good book
An enjoyable straight forward book. It had enough character and plot development that I felt for the characters. Read the previous novels first is my advice. All worth a read.
