Summary
This is the era of Luke Skywalker’s legacy: The Jedi Master has unified the order into a cohesive group of powerful Jedi Knights. But as the new era begins, planetary interests threaten to disrupt this time of relative peace, and Luke is plagued with visions of an approaching darkness. Evil is rising again - out of the best intentions - and it looks as if the legacy of the Skywalkers may come full circle. Honor and duty will collide with friendship and blood ties as the Skywalker and Solo clans find themselves on opposing sides of an explosive conflict with potentially devastating repercussions for both families, for the Jedi order, and for the entire galaxy.
When a mission to uncover an illegal missile factory on the planet Adumar ends in a violent ambush - from which Jedi Knight Jacen Solo and his protégé and cousin, Ben Skywalker, narrowly escape with their lives - it’s the most alarming evidence yet that sparks of political unrest are threatening to ignite into total rebellion. The governments of numerous worlds are chafing under the strict regulations of the Galactic Alliance, and diplomatic efforts to enforce compliance are failing. Fearing the worst, the Alliance readies a preemptive display of military might in a bid to bring the rogue worlds in line before an uprising erupts. The designated target of this exercise: planet Corellia - renowned for the brash independence and renegade spirit that have made its favorite son, Han Solo, a legend.
Something of a rogue himself, Jacen is nevertheless duty bound as a Jedi to stand with his uncle, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, on the side of the Galactic Alliance. But when the wary Corellians launch a counterstrike, the Alliance’s show of force - and a secret mission to disable Corellia’s crucial Centerpoint Station - give way to an armed skirmish.
Once the smoke clears, the battle lines are drawn. Now, the specter of full-scale war looms between a growing cadre of defiant planets and the Galactic Alliance that some fear is becoming a new Empire. And even as both sides struggle to find a diplomatic solution, mysterious acts of treachery and sabotage threaten peace efforts at every turn.
Determined to root out those behind the mayhem, Jacen follows a trail of cryptic clues to a dark rendezvous with the most shocking of revelations...while Luke grapples with something even more troubling: dream visions of a shadowy figure whose Force power and ruthlessness remind him of Darth Vader - a lethal enemy who strikes like a dark spirit on a mission of doom. An agent of evil who, if Luke’s visions come to pass, will bring untold pain to the Jedi Master...and to the entire galaxy.

Starwars book review
Would you listen to Star Wars again? Why?
the star wars expanded universe is the most detailed gripping group of stories that takes your most beloved characters from starwars and the authors keep the universe alive in our minds with these great well written series.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It has to be Jacen solo because of his traumatic experiences in the last series of books he has been through so much and with little support from the jedi order and his fear of what might be could turn him towards the dark side.
What about Marc Thompson’s performance did you like?
Marc has voiced a lot of the starwars books and is by far the best i have ever heard.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
when jacen killed the the other jedi to save himself form having to fight luke
Any additional comments?
Audible is the only place for me, the best quality books by great authors that transport you to another world for just a while and is always there when you need it.

Abridged
Abridged version that sucks the soul out of the book: save yourselves, don't listen to this pale imitation!

Brilliant Story told by brilliant Marc Thompson
This audible series is some of the best Star wars material I have come across and is brought to life by the brilliant voice actor, Marc Thompson who, imo, is the best star wars narrator there is.
I found myself fully immersed in this series and finished all 9 books in around 2 or 3 weeks. The character motivations are understandable and relatable and Jacens decent into darkness flows naturally and feels like a believable mistake which any of us could make.
I only wish Amazon would re-record some of the older star wars series' using Marc Thompson to narrate an unabridged version of the books.

Amazing sound effects
I loved this book and this series anyway before audible. I was unsure of it would ruin or enhance my love for this book. It enhances it and then some as the music and sound effects from the movies are used to great effect and makes me feel like it more real than even seeing it with my own eyes. The narrator is amazing too

Hard storyline
I found this to be a hard story to follow. There was so many twists and turns, that sometimes I got lost in the storyline.

I wish I could rate it higher
Cutting to the chase: I've listened to a lot of SW books now, specifically with Marc Thompson narration.
I researched when the book takes place and couldn't wait.
Main Issues:
- Too little: 6 hours. You can get better, longer written stories in this universe and make better use of your money/Audible token.
- Too late: It jumps around locations so quickly and so often, and ramps up towards the end. I listened in two 3 hour sittings and my head was rattled after that 2nd part.
- Jokes don't land: There really is a curse of writing humour in Star Wars literature. What could be a witty remark from a charismatic character often devolves to made-up sci-fi words in sequence.
"Ha! That's got as many Buzzlocks as a Lopamiri Mangworm!"
Like wtf. Why would you end a chapter like that.
Positives:
+ The story and writing. The actual longer story amd writing, is good. I kinda have an idea of what happens during the series, but I had no idea how it gets there. Let's just say, the way it's written, you could come back to this and find a lot of hints they've planted since book 1. Very cool.
+ Marc Thompson is good again. However, this recording is kinda old and you don't get as many wacky voices as you would, because there aren't many alien characters.
+ The main cast of characters are all quite interesting. Although because it's so short it feels like everyone gets sidelined.
+ The franchise music and SFX are also in this book. But they could've used the music better/more often.
So overall, there's a lot I take issue with. Even the positives have negatives in them. But the force ghost of a great Star Wars story remains here and that deserves something.
Regrettably, 3 stars. Not the 4 or 5 it could've been. Nor the 2 stars I could've gave it if I was feeling merciless.
Thanks for reading <3
