About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The next adventure in the High Republic, expanding the new era of
Star Wars, with a story set generations before Light of the Jedi.

It is an age of exploration. Jedi travel the galaxy, expanding their understanding of the Force and all the worlds and beings connected by it. Meanwhile, the Republic, led by its two chancellors, works to unite worlds in an ever-growing community among near and distant stars.

On the close orbiting planets of Eiram and E'ronoh, the growing pains of a galaxy with limited resources but unlimited ambition are felt keenly. Their hatred for each other has fueled half a decade of escalating conflict and now threatens to consume surrounding systems. The last hope for peace emerges when heirs from the two planets' royal families plan to marry.

Before lasting peace can be established, an assassination attempt targeting the couple tilts Eiram and E'ronoh back into all-out war. To save both worlds, Jedi Knight Gella Nattai volunteers to uncover the culprit, while Chancellor Kyong appoints her son, Axel Greylark, to represent the Republic's interests in the investigation.

But Axel's deep distrust of the Jedi sparks against Gella's faith in the Force. She's never met such a puffed-up, privileged party boy, and he's never met a more self-serious, relentless do-gooder. The more they work to untangle the shadowy web of the investigation, the more complicated the conspiracy appears to be. With accusations flying and potential enemies in every shadow, the pair will have to work together to have any hope of bringing the truth to light and saving both worlds.

Genuinely really enjoyed this. Really liked the characters as well. Not too many. Just a good amount of individuals with some depth. Would recommend this. Much in vein with the better star wars THR books from phase 1.

Good punchy opening to phase 2

Convergence is a strange entry - Seemingly disconnected from the wider High Republic storyline, the story does well to justify its existence and place in the overall plot. The Battle of Jedha will fill you in on the basic facts, but I urge readers not to let this tale pass you by.

Between Convergence and Path of Deceit, there’s a lot of romance in Phase II of the High Republic, and it is very welcome. The two heirs of Eitam and E’ronoh are charming and their growing bond across the story is a joy to read. They are young, but mature and that maturity is the ground for their relationship, a strong contrast to the tender and fumbling connection between the two leads of Path of Deceit.

Gella Natai and Axel Greylark are both likeable. Both people are unsure of their place in the Galaxy, and their journey of self-discovery is a pleasure to follow.

Convergence picks up about a quarter of the way in after the groundwork is laid out. Once our four leads are established, their quest is set, and the cast of supporting characters are in place, it is exciting, and is pure Star Wars. Despite the grimness of these war torn planet’s’ circumstances, the sense of optimism in the book is unmistakable. It’s a story that made me feel like things can be okay so long as people pitch together. In trying times, sometimes that’s all the hope you need.

Thrilling and Endearing

Nothing special about the book, enjoyable. Amazing narrating as always by Marc . Worth a listen to keep up with the high republic series

Decent

a fantastic book. World's better than the atrociously awful 'path of deciet'. Convergence begins by dropping you in the middle of a war between two twin planets who share more than just a moon. A strong story love and betrayal with some wonderful character arcs, this is a treat for any star wars fan and rights phase two on to a good future.

A brilliant return to form

Great read, really enjoyed getting a better idea of the set up of the old republic and the place the Jedi held. Defo recommend to any Star Wars fan new or old 😊 .
