Summary
A novel based upon the explosive Star Trek TV series!
The USS Discovery’s specialty is using its spore-based hub drive to jump great distances faster than any warp-faring vessel in Starfleet. To do this, Lieutenant Paul Stamets navigates the ship through the recently revealed mycelial network, a subspace domain Discovery can briefly transit but in which it cannot remain.
After responding to a startling distress call originating from within the network, the Discovery crew find themselves trapped in an inescapable realm where they will surely perish unless their missing mycelial fuel is found or restored. Is the seemingly human man found alone and alive inside the network the Starfleet officer he claims to be, or an impostor created by alien intruders who hope to extract themselves from the mycelial plane at the expense of all lives aboard Discovery?

Write Something Original
After watching the TV series this book bored me to tears. It's basically a re-run of an existing episode except that it looks at it from the different point of view. The book is dull and leaves the reader wanting more than a guy who can't deal with his own emotions and a woman who has an obvious eating disorder.

not so good
I don't EVER write a bad review, who Am I to criticize someone else work? But...... I am a life long Star Trek fan, when I saw this Star Trek title, I thought, oh good, I will love a Star Trek book.. I have been forcing my way hour after hour with this book, I don't know a single character, even after all of this time listening, The story is just a mess and confusing. If I spoke to you in person, I really couldn't tell you what this story is about. so sorry if the author reads this, but......this book didn't work for me, at all....I can't even finish it.

Good but not what I like about star trek
I've always liked star trek since its beginning, The United federation of planets space adventure exploring new frontiers meeting new species as the main focal point, I'm not really into romance type stories, I got the feeling that this books main focus was as a gay romance story, nothing wrong with that, just it's not what I expected from the tittle and description, and not what I was looking for, but if you like that kind of story; You will love this book, and that's just my opinion I'm sure others will be quite different and that's great

Great Story Awesome Narrator!
My daughter & I love the Discovery stories. We are all up to date on the first 2 seasons of the show & have been listening to the audiobooks to fill in backstory and keep occupied until season 3. We connect with the main characters & have been especially moved by the story of Stamets and Culber. This book really kept us enthralled and added a fantastic new depth to what we thought we already knew. Also - the narrator is absolutely amazing at capturing the speaking patterns of the individual characters. We could easily discern which character was speaking by both the writer's choice of wording (also excellent!) and the narrator's pacing. Perfect all the way through!

Excellent book all the way through
This is my first ever Star Trek book and I completely enjoyed it. It makes me want to watch the show and get more Star Trek books. Because this is based on a TV series, it is useful to look up the main characters if you don't watch the show. You'll have a clearer picture in your mind of what they look like. It's not absolutely necessary, but I did it about an hour into it. Parts of this book are emotional, parts intellectually stimulating, and bits have humor. It's entertaining and well written. It certainly fits firmly into the science fiction genre.

Bravo!
Maybe it's because this story centers around my favorite Star Trek relationship, or maybe it's because the author has opened up the mycelial network to all kinds of possibilities, but this might just be my favorite Star Trek Discovery book yet! I can't wait to see what other stories this author contributes to the Star Trek bookverse. Also, thanks to the publisher for putting out more Star Trek audio books. Please continue to do so for all of the series. It's wonderful!

Confusing at first but then it became so clear!
I had no idea of what this story was going on about at first as the characters were all so Familiar and yet not. And the suddenly clarity in the multiverse and mycelial network! This was a great story that drew me in slowly with many “what-if’s” but ultimately concluding with a Great merge into the storyline followers of Discovery are familiar with.
