About this listen

Twenty-two-year-old pop star Cherry Pye is attempting a comeback from her latest drug-fuelled disaster. Her 'stunt double', Ann, travels everywhere with her, throwing paparazzi off the scent when they get too close. But one night, Ann's resemblance to Cherry Pye proves too convincing - she is kidnapped by an obsessed paparazzo who only realises his mistake once it is too late to go back....

Critic reviews

"Bright, breezy and hectic, Star Island wears its pessimism lightly. It is, in fact, a blast." ( Financial Times)
"The funniest crime novelist to put pen to paper." (The Evening Standard)

Hiaasen has developed an amazing cast of grotesque characters and fitted them into a slick and witty storyline that had me smiling throughout and laughing out loud at times. Loved it.

One of his best

Great narration of another Skink story. Suspend disbelief and enjoy the utterly fantastic tale, intertwining an out of control pop star on her last bid to reignite her career, a controlling mother, the pop stars disheartened double, a deluded photographer and a disfigured bodyguard. Just when you think you know the way things are going to go, the plan goes off the rails and everybody, well almost everybody, is after what's best for them.
Somewhat disappointing ending, but the rest of the book is classic Hiaasen.
