Summary

Earth builds her first war fleet!

The greatest warships ever constructed in known space rise up one by one, soon dominating our skies. They strike fear into the hearts of every citizen and rebel colonist alike. Captain William Sparhawk, the very man who convinced the secretive Council to build this terrifying fleet, now has doubts about the project. What is their exact mission? How could anyone have built these huge ships so quickly? And, most puzzling of all, what's happening out at the isolated laboratory complex on Phobos, Mars' lopsided moon?

Learn the stunning truth in Star Carrier, the final book of the Lost Colonies Trilogy.

A Short Series

Star Carrier, the final book in the Lost Colonies series from B V Larson is of the same general standard as the previous two stories in the trilogy. As mentioned before in my reviews of those books, the Lost Colonies series appears to cater for what I consider a younger target audience, lacking the gritty edge of Larsson's other major series like the Star Force and Undying Mercenaries sagas. This is not necessarily a bad thing as I feel it's the mark of a good author when they can alter the style and content of their stories to appeal to a wider audience. Star Carrier is consistent in this regard to the previous books in the series and although lacking the sophistication of his other stories is still a worthwhile read.

The sense I got was that Larson perhaps ran out of ideas and ended this series at just 3 books. Given it's a lost colonies theme, there would seem to me plenty of scope for more stories but I feel Larson experimented with a "lighter" type of science fiction only to discover the idea had ran out of steam. Larson excels at the darker more visceral and alien aspects and having to tone down these themes may have proved too limiting for him.

Star Carrier is nonetheless an entertaining read on the whole and Ballerini's narration was excellent and totally consistent with that of the previous two parts to this trilogy. Given the way the book concluded, it does appear to me that Larson has closed the door on any more in this series.

An entertaining and lightweight series but one worth a read when you wish to tackle something more digestible than some of the much heavier fare out there in the science fiction genre.

Disappointed

BV Larson fan but story predictable & Eduardo Balarini more suited to Bodice Rippers

one of the voices made me think of count dracula, it added a great character image

a great ending to a space opera trilogy, a lot of twists and turns and callbacks at the right time to really give the captain his final triumph

amazing little sci-fi

I loved this trilogy. the main story, the narrator and the picture it paints is amazing 👏

my only negative with his series is the unnecessary volume of his own officers that the captain sleeps with and the emotional recall from these events... the books were great, but not every female lead is supposed to need to bang the male lead. less of that and more of the main story and I'd have recommended this to my family. but how can I when it reads like male Sci fi pork?

A brilliant book with a wonderful narrator. I could listen to him all day! The story is great and perfectly mirrors what is happening on Earth today.
