Summary

Watch out for the Assassin’s Claws....

Gifflet “Gib” Moreno is a paid killer, just like his four brothers. It’s the family business - they fight together, they die together. Whether they’re working as a group or alone, they are a tight unit who protect their own.

As the introverted brother who’s known for watching from the shadows and listening more than he talks, Gib is the one sent on a discrete assignment. His mission: Follow a blackmarket importer, learn what he knows about the plot afoot to reveal the secret existence of shifters...then kill him.

HRH Darius Aurea, prince of the island nation of Aurelia is in town to do what he does best: Party. The last thing he expects is to have a blast from his past show up with claims that he has a son. And that his alleged son has been kidnapped.

A bungled rescue attempt finds Darius also imprisoned and it falls on Gib to save the day. Not only the day, but also his...mate? The stealthy assassin is far from thrilled to find his true mate is someone as loud and well-known as HRH Prince Partypants.

This is the second book in the Assassin’s Claws series. Note: While mpreg exists in this world, we won’t have a birth in every book. This book contains killer cats, ninja bunnies and a spoiled prince who’ll need to alpha up if he wants to keep his man. Get ready for naughty-knotty fun and low-ball humor as only Susi Hawke can provide.

as great as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Kenneth Obi is one of the top 5 narrators (so far) for me, I can listen without break and have no problems to follow. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

Good continuation of the series

The story continues from book 1 but can be listened to on its own merit.
The story is fun, with action, humour and some serious moments. Gib and Darius make a good couple.
As usual, Kenneth Obi provides an enjoyable performance. I enjoyed listening to him as he brought the characters to life.
A good way to experience the story ❤

Stands Out

I really enjoyed this audiobook. Put simply, Stand Out stands out as a sweet, funny story. I love the way the author juxtaposes her characters. A playboy prince and an assassin...oh nightmare of nightmares for poor Gib. The author makes them work as a couple despite the apparent differences. I loved Darius's son and the humor he injected into the story, and the support the brothers Moreno give each other is fantastic and sweet!

Kenneth Obi did a great of voicing the characters from snarky Gib to Darius's know-it-all son and everyone in between.

I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Prince Partypants and the Assassin

This is the second Susi Hawke book I’ve listened to in as many days and the second where fated mates recognized each other by scent. Well, the sober one did, anyway. The next time they met, though, and their destiny was set. I suppose that might happen to humans in real life (e.g. love at first sight), but it feels a little weird to me. These are two men from vastly different worlds and the assumption they’re just going to adapt and change their lives is a little daunting. That being said, this is a good story.

I was intrigued that the party boy was the alpha. Darius does not have his shit together. Like at all. Having a son he knew nothing about might be the first clue that he’s not the most responsible. Is it his fault he’s only just finding out about the boy? Perhaps not, but it is telling. Once he mans up, so to speak, he does everything he can to rescue the boy.

Gifflet (better known as Gib) is an assassin. It’s a family thing. He might be an omega, but he’s stood tall along side his brothers, taking on tough assignments. This latest one brings him into contact with some unsavory characters, an alpha prince, and a young boy who is way too old spiritually for his age.

This is an interesting story with twists and turns I didn’t always see coming. From snake shifters, to killer cats, and ninja bunnies, the action went right along. Even the alpha and omega story didn’t progress quite the way I thought it would.

Kenneth Obi narrates this series and with Darius’ accent does a decent job. He is able to maintain the accent through most of the book, so that was appreciated. Overall I enjoyed this book. I’ll be interested to see where the series goes next.

Amazing narration and story

I really loved this book when I read it, but Kenneth Obi made it even better as he really brought these characters to life.

This story is funny, sweet, full of adventure and love.

I really recommend it

The quiet ones...

Gib is an assassin for pay. Quiet and an observer. As an omega he gets cuddled and he doesn’t like it. When he meets his Alpha, he is not happy. Prince Darius, who is a party boy, runs into him in a mission. Then he becomes the mission... I think Darius was a bit uncaring... and self absorbed but loving and capable of change. Sasha is an awfully sweet and funny character. I laughed out loud with his innocent comments. Gib surprised me with his decisions towards his mate and family. Enjoyable listen! 🎧

The series just keeps getting better.

My one complaint of book one when I read it was that I didn’t really connect with the characters but with the audiobook narration I connected a lot more. With Stand Out there was none of this. Immediate connection with all the characters meant that Kenneth Obi’s narration just enhanced this. Fast paced and enjoyable, with a kid older than his years and ninja bunnies what more do you need? Twists, turns and hilarity kept me listening and loving!

4.5* of fun

Another Hit. With an outstanding performance by Kenneth Obi. I loved the interaction between Darius and Gib and their family.
It was fun, fast paced, thoughtful and great fun to read. Another fantastic Susie story. This book had adventure, was fun and had a cute 7+ little boy called Sasha. A young child with a old head on his shoulders.

Funny

Very cute shifter/fated mates book. Super funny like you'd expect from Susi Hawke. Really liked the story line. Kenneth Obi crushed it with the narration.

entertaining

Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Were there any parts I found annoying: no
Did I feel a connection to the characters: yes
Would I listen to it again: yes

A quiet assassin + Prince Partypants makes for a fun and entertaining story. Good pace, lots of humor and likeable characters.

I enjoyed Kenneth Obi's narration and think he's done a good job bringing the characters and humor in this book to life. I had no problem distinguishing who was speaking and was immersed in the audio experience.

Narration just makes this better!

I enjoyed this book when I read it, Gib and Darius are a fun couple, and Darius's son is a sweet and funny know-it-all. But listening to this story with the accents and characterizations just makes it better. I'd been initially hesitant as I've heard narrators who struggle with kids voices, but Kenneth Obi does a great job.

Darius and Gib

This is the second book in The Assassin's Claws Series. A captivating story the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters great. The characters were developed and thought out. Darius and Gib are the MC’s of this book and mates. The narration was good it wasn’t monotone and there were different voices for the characters. I can recommend this book as a good read/listen. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Another Winner

When of my favorite authors teams up with one of my favorite narrators to bring us a story with fated mates, assassins, and of course the humor and love that is evident in any Susi Hawke story - you have a true winner!
This time, we have a little more introverted assassin and a spoiled prince who aren't overly thrilled with their mate! But despite their differences, watching Gib and Darius come together and find their rhythm as a couple is really entertaining and so much fun to listen to! The characters are amazingly well written, and you can't help but love Gib (and his brothers) despite their profession in assassinating!
Kenneth Obi did an outstanding job bringing Gib and Darius (and of course all Gib's brothers) to life! His characterization that he does for each voice is unique and a true joy to listen to! He really brings out the best in the characters! I can't wait for the next in the series!!

Loved It

I received an ARC of this audio for my honest review. Another great book by Susi and in this series. Kenneth does a great job on the narrating. Gib is an assassin and Darius is a prince who loves to party. He has a nickname of Prince Partypants. When he finds out his son Sacha (who he didn't know he had) is kidnapped he goes and takes a walk and finds out where they are keeping him. He charges in and winds up being tied up himself. Great story of different shifter's that are assassins and a blackmarket operation take down. Kenneth does a great job narrating different voices for each character.

Great Story

Great story for this wonderful series as we see another Moreno brother get his HEA. Gib and Darius are definitely an unlikely couple but fate knows what it's doing when they're brought together as fated mates. There's lots of action in this one along with humor and romance. The narrator did a good job overall, I just had a little trouble with the accents he uses on some of the characters, it just didn't work for me. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook.

I laughed harder the second time around

Well damn! This one had me in stitches the entire time! I laughed so hard my sides hurt. When I first read the book it was that way but hearing the different voices being done by the narrator? Ten times better, you’ll laugh a lot with this book so inhalers might be required just saying lol
