Summary

Time's up. You're Next.

"All he had to do was name the woman he wanted. It was that easy. They would do all the hard work."

Detective Sergeant Mark 'Heck' Heckenburg is investigating the disappearance of 38 different women. Each one was happy and successful until they vanished without a trace.

Desperate to find her missing sister, Lauren Wraxford seeks out Heck's help. Together they enter a seedy underworld of gangsters and organised crime. But when they hear rumours about the so-called 'Nice Guys Club' they hit a brick wall. They're the gang that no one will talk about. Because the Nice Guys can arrange anything you want. Provided you pay the price....

Dark, terrifying and unforgettable. Stalkers will keep fans of Stuart MacBride and Katia Lief looking over their shoulder.

A Cliffhanger to the end...

If you could sum up Stalkers in three words, what would they be?

gripping and twisting storyline

What other book might you compare Stalkers to, and why?

Some of Stephen Leathers Dan Shepherd series

Which character – as performed by Paul Thornley – was your favourite?

All of them... Paul is superb to listen to...

Any additional comments?

I had never heard of Paul Finch (sorry) and only picked this book for the reader (Paul Thornley). But wow! was I hooked right from the beginning. It has some surprising twists and turns, and I loved Heck, who was ruthless, but caring.... funny but serious.... altogether a very complex character, which all adds to the suspense. Well worth downloading, but dont start listening if you have only limited time.... you wont be able to switch it off!

Fascinating, unexpected, must keep on listening to

This was my introduction to Paul Finch's books and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The main character, Heck, was flawed and although his exploits were extreme, he remained down to earth and believable. I'd hate to live in his world but enjoyed reading about it. It ended with a bit of a cliffhanger, so I assume it's the first of a series and although I normally don't like series I will buy more of this one.

Robotic narration

Would you try another book written by Paul Finch or narrated by Paul Thornley?

The story was really good but it was massively spoiled by the narrator who's speech was stilted and robotic and times. When he was voicing the characters he came to life but telling the story was just awful, he put pauses where there shouldn't have been any. I started getting really distracted by how many times he paused in one sentence. One example
They abandoned, Hecks fiat, in a multi-storey car park, in Cockfosters. It was, on one of the, upper floors...
At times I wanted to scream at him "Just get on with it!!!"
That said I loved the story and when it did flow it was great.
I would listen to another Paul Finch book but I would hesitate if it was narrated by Paul Thornley,

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Hecks gruff exterior hiding a genuine nice guy

What didn’t you like about Paul Thornley’s performance?

It was like he was reading a book he had never seen before and hesitated after every few words

Was Stalkers worth the listening time?

Definitely. The story was great

Top Notch Crime Thriller

The first Paul Finch book I have listened to it will certainly not be the last. Great characters great plot listened in record time because I could not put it down

Paul Thornley shows yet again that in this genre he is the benchmark by which all other narrator's are judged.

I am tempted to start my next Paul Finch right away but stuff this good should be kept and brought out for a special occasion.

Be warned, very graphic violence!

I’ve given this 5 stars because it is a clever story, well plotted and the characters are very well drawn. However, I am getting fed up with rogue heroes who disobey every single order they’re given and manage to win every single fight, no matter the odds and skills that are pitted against them. Having said that, the narrator is excellent and in part was why I carried on listening. If you can easily suspend disbelief, and like a lot of tension and violence then this book’s for you.

Great narration

This is a fairly average story made by some excellent narration. There are quite a few characters with various regional UK accents and the narrator Paul Thornley does a brilliant job of switching from Manc to Leeds to Brum to Cockney.

The story is one of a maverick cop on the hunt on a crazed gang of killers who has he tracks down with the help of a beautiful but troubled sidekick.

Excellent narration and fab story

I really enjoyed this book. Paul Finch is a brilliant author and the narrator did an excellent job of different tones for different characters which were easily distinguishable.

Although the overt sexism could probably do with being toned down a bit.

Great !

I asked Audible if they could get more of the Paul Finch Sgt Heckenberg series and they did ! So thank you Audible. I really enjoyed the only other one of the series they had on Audible "Hunted" which is book 5 in the series so I was so pleased to start at book 1 "Stalkers". Paul Finch was a script writer for TV and a former policeman in England and it shows in his writing these detective novels featuring DS "Heck" Heckenburg are paced really well, tension builds and the story is gripping . I could not stop listening. Some of the crime scenes are a bit graphic but the plots are so inventive lots of twists and turns. The narrator Paul Thornley does an excellent job . the Can't wait to read book 2 "Sacrafice".

Crime and women abuse. Good entertainment

Crime fiction, at times it was really nerve-wracking. Some times it was a bit slow but all in all a good read.

farfetched and dull

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

perhaps male teenagers

What could Paul Finch have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Have a plausible plot with more realistic characters. The two lead characters performed like super heroes.

Would you be willing to try another one of Paul Thornley’s performances?

Don't think so

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappointment

Any additional comments?

inconclusive ending ... made a long listen, even less unworthy.
