Editor reviews

It's widely accepted that kickers do not garner as much respect as position players in the NFL. Garo Yepremian manages to use this to his advantage with his unique, self-deprecating Tales from the Miami Dolphins Sideline: a personal, revelatory take on his experience kicking for one of the most iconic teams in league history.

Rich Owen appropriately maintains a buoyant, conversational tone throughout, but he also shows the ability to shift gears when necessary. Yepremian is painfully sincere at times - particularly in his account of his infamous Super Bowl VII blunder - and Owen injects these moments with the right amount of heart and vulnerability.

Summary

Step onto the gridiron with the greatest legends from Miami Dolphins football - newly updated!

This unique and humorous look at life with the Dolphins brings fans onto the field and into the locker room through the eyes of Garo Yepremian, one of Miami’s most recognizable figures. From kicking in his first professional football game to being named “Kicker of the Decade”, Yepremian relives the Dolphins epic 1972 season and so much more.

Written Like a Child's Account

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A decent ghostwriter.

Has Tales from the Miami Dolphins Sideline put you off other books in this genre?

No, I listened to the Miami Hurricanes edition & that, whilst not perfect, does not suffer from the same, lack of narrative, issues.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

In fairness to the narrator, he didn't have anything to work with.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Erm... it ended?

Any additional comments?

Such a let down. I've been a Dolphins fan for over 30 years & thought a book of stories from the days when the team was worth watching might be nice to get me in the mood for the season, what I got was an unintelligible mess! It's a string of sentences that bare no relation to the previous one. It's written like a child's account of their summer holiday. "I did this...", "I went to...", "I met...". There's no narrative structure and it jumps back and forth from the seventies to modern day, the sixties to the eighties, back to the seventies, into the nineties... but with no particular reason, it's not to set any sort of scene, it's just whatever random thought comes next. I love Garo, but he really needed someone to sit down with him and then write this up for him with some sort of structure that made sense. Unlistenable guff!
