Summary
Split Second is the first in the gripping King and Maxwell series by best-selling author David Baldacci.
When something distracts Secret Agent Sean King for a split second, it costs him his career and presidential candidate Clyde Ritter his life. But what stole his attention? And why was Ritter shot?
Eight years later Michelle Maxwell is on the fast track through the ranks of the Secret Service when her career is stopped short: presidential candidate John Bruno is abducted from a funeral home while under her protection.
The similarity between the two cases drives Michelle to reopen investigations into the Ritter fiasco and join forces with attractive ex-agent King. The pair are determined to get to the bottom of what happened in those critical moments.
Meanwhile, high-ranking members of the legal system and key witnesses from both cases are going missing. King is losing friends, colleagues and clients fast, and his ex-lover, Joan Dillinger, is playing curious games - she wants Sean back, but she also owes him for something....
Split Second is followed by Hour Game, Simple Genius, First Family, The Sixth Man and King and Maxwell.

What an annoying narrator
I'm only a few chapters in but the narrator's voice and style are driving me crazy. I would listen to another book by Baldacci but not if read by Scott brick. He has an annoying voice and most of the time I can't tell if it's the man or women talking. They both sound the same.

Baldacci at his best
Thoroughly enjoyed this story which was fast paced. Was listening to it while working in house and found myself sitting down to listen to the story rather than switch it off in order to vacuum. Narration good and to me it was Baldacci at his best.

Far-fetched plot, shallow characterisation
Not for me. Clichéd and lazy writing, no depth to characters, turgid dialogue. And "lightyear" is a measurement of distance, not time, David Baldacci and your lazy editor!

great story less than great performance
the story itsslef was really good however the narrator's performance left a lot to be desired.
he sounded bored and had no get and and go for the book. as well as that the editing left choppy areas and a lack of audio every now and then.

Log awaited unabridged
I loved the abridged version, got me hooked on Baldacci books. I have been wanting this version for a while 😊. The Story is amazing characters well made good and bad guys. King and Maxwell are a great team.

Excellent
Fantastic, intricate, thrilling and compelling story. Scott Brick is one of the best narrators. I have listened to many of his and disturbed that previous reviews have expressed the opposite. can't wait for the next book.

Convoluted
I am a Baldacci fan so am maybe not the best critic. I loved this book which is the first in the Maxwell series and puts into context how they came to work together. The plot is extremely convoluted but comes together well at the end, always a bonus!

Satisfied reader.
A good plot, well written. David Baldacci has delivered another thriller, fast paced with twists and turns right up to the final page.
