Summary

The original Spiritual Midwifery, published in 1976, introduced an entire generation of young women to the possibility of home birth and breast feeding. It also breathed new life into the all-but-vanished field of midwifery.

The current edition of this classic book on home birth is now an audiobook, with updated information on the safety of natural childbirth, new birthing stories, and the most recent statistics on births managed by The Farm Midwives.

Ina May also provides new information about potentially dangerous techniques routinely used in hospitals during and after birth, as well as the latest findings about vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). Improved instructions for handling breech births are also given. Included are stories of working with Amish women, showing a different culture with a similar appreciation for natural childbirth.

Spiritual Midwifery is skillfully narrated by Camille Mazant. All figures and diagrams referenced in the narration are included in the supplementary PDF.

Excellent resource for anyone expecting a baby

Such a wonderful book to listen to while driving, amazing birth stories to help reprogram fear around birth and get you excited about the potentially “psychedelic” experience. Such wisdom and insights for me parents and anyone who wants a more positive pregnancy and birth experience. Highly recommend!

Most incredible book

I am amazed but this collection of stories and information. I cried in happiness and sadness, and anger and love. It truly connects us to each other and ourselves.

Amazing Stories Beautifully Read

Camille Mazant does justice to these inspiring stories. I learned so much about different people's processes of natural birth and genuinely enjoyed listening to her reading. Ina May Garten has done and seen some amazing things; she is a veritable wealth of knowledge and we are lucky she's shared so much of it in this work! I received this product in exchange for an honest review

cringey, self-aggrandizing hippies

I was raised in this kind of environment and I'm a believer in home birth, my dad even spent time at the farm. Maybe as a result I'm finding I can't handle this book. The intense egoism of these people. Its stunning. Between bragging about drinking during pregnancy to giving birth in a bus without anyone present with experience, to how proud they all are of their poor living conditions- let me tell you, the kids raised by these people are not all happy with their childhoods. Steven is also definitely a cult leader, so there's that. So far there's also no useful info or advice, just self congratulatory stories. Despite the hype, skip this.

Very inspirational and informative

Great stories and information for mothers, their partners and midwives. OB's Should read up on how to support mothers in their birthing journey and to interfere as little as possible. This would create a much improved outcome for mothers and babies which would have an impact on society as a whole.

Please have this reread by someone who is familiar with medical terminology so that those who are listening and learning from it may get the full benefit.

I really learned a lot about the energies of childbirth. There was tears and joy in listening to such beautiful and personal stories.
