It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

The epidemic struck at the end of the Third World War. Fighting over oil, power, and religion, governments ignored the rise of an antibacterial-resistant plague. Within the walled city of Lower Etyom dwell the Robusts - descendants of the poor who were immune to the New Black Death. Brilliant
I had to rewind either a few minutes or back to the beginning of a chapter quite frequently. It’s such a long and rich story , lots of groups all with important characters. I got a few muddled up but I never minded rewinding a bit to reorient myself.
I enjoyed all 44 hours of it .
A difficult story to sum up as it covers quite a lot of stories wrapped up in a futuristic, apocalyptic mix of lost meets Star Trek .
Try it if you aren’t sure , give it a few hours to start establishing a good storyline with some holes filled in. I was a bit unsure for a while

Absolutely brilliant!!💜
After The Sky Book 1
Fantastic story! Thought provoking and highly entertaining. I couldn’t stop listening. I loved the way the author wrote this story with several POV’s. I also loved the ease of going back and forth in time without the confusion that sometimes happens. I’m not a fan of long chapters however, but that’s just me. The performance of this narrator was absolutely brilliant. He really understood each character and their emotions while seamlessly switching from one to the next. This is book 1 in a trilogy and the story continues in book 2. I highly recommend this book!
Tomorrow’s Children Book 2
Fascinating story!💜
This story was angsty, heartbreaking and exciting. I loved every minute of it and couldn’t put it down. With a story like this it’s hard to say what I loved about it the most without giving away any spoilers. I’m loving the way this author tells the story with multiple POV’s. He also has away of making each evil character worse than the last although I’d have to say Perch would win the title IMO. I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation of what was going to happen next. When you listen to an audiobook and the narration is done so well that you forget it’s only one narrator, it creates a movie in your head. Each chapter being the next episode.. The emotions (and there were plenty of them) really moved me. Well done!! I’m so glad I started this after all books were published, so that I can binge this trilogy.
This is book 2 in this trilogy and definitely continues on to book 3. I highly recommend this book/series!!
City of Glass Book 3
Brilliant!💜
What a terrific way to end this trilogy. Admittedly, I enjoyed books 1 & 2 a little more, however, that does not take away the impact this book has and the amazing way he pulled it altogether. I couldn’t imagine it ending any other way. I enjoyed getting to know these characters and I will miss them, some more than others. A huge part of that for me, is the narration. It’s so easy to get caught up in so many lives when the story is told so well. I could visualize the entire scene (some of which made me cringe) and I felt like I was there. I actually finished this trilogy pretty fast because I couldn’t wait to listen each morning and didn’t want to turn it off at night. Not every book does that to me but these definitely did. The narration was absolutely amazing. All three books are outstanding and I highly recommend this book/series.

The story is OK...but....
There is no Q in nuclear!!!! I didn't mind the story, despite all the impossibilities (it is fiction, after all), but I absolutely can not keep a book that has the performer consistently mispronouncing the word "nuclear" in the most ignorant and annoying way possible. It annoys me even more than someone who says "libary" instead of library. It's one of my biggest pet peeves. I played the whole thing, but only as background noise at work. I still winced every time the performer said "nu-cue-ler". At first, I thought that maybe it was just a character in the book saying it that way...but then he had scientists saying it that way as well. And then I hoped that maybe it would change with the second book...or the third...but nope. It was consistent. And like nails on a chalkboard to me. If they ever re-record it with the proper pronunciation, I'd like to listen to it again, but as it is, I just can't deal with it. I have returned it.

Not quite, but close.
This afternoon I finished listening to the trilogy. I liked this book but I was just short of giving it 5 stars.
Pros: I very much enjoyed the narration I thought it was very easy to determine which characters' voice was being used. I felt that the vocal emotion expressed matched the mood of the character.
I thought that the characters were extremely relatable and well developed. The protagonists were flawed and the antagonists were people that you could not only dislike, but loathe.
The most important part of writing fiction is to present something that is believable to the audience I felt that Mr. Fowler delivered here.
Cons: I felt the biggest factor preventing the series from getting a 5-star review from me was the lack of adequate closure with some of the antagonists, three in particular. I had invested a lot of emotion into these characters and felt that their termination points in the story were rushed and hollow. Cumuppance, I wanted cumuppance and I felt that was missing.
Summary: I would recommend this book to friends of fiction, it was a very interesting story. The time periods jumped around quite a bit and typically I would find that distracting, but it seemed to work here. As mentioned however, there were closures that I had hoped to receive but I did not. At the end of the day, I thought the book wrapped up well and had a satisfactory ending.

Thought Provoking Post-Apoc SciFantasy
I have read and listened to a lot of post-apocalyptic stories over the years and while many are enjoyable, few also provoke deep thought about man's relationship to nature, the assumptions people generally and as a whole make, how we choose our beliefs and how those beliefs change over time, and the cyclical nature of many of our paths as a species. Spirits of the Earth does all of that while telling an engaging story. The rotating POVs help to demonstrate the differences between what people believe versus the actual truth, while the very human choices and repercussions help to keep the reader/listener engaged. The time jumps used when rotating between perspectives until all the characters arrive at the same point in time help to reveal how everyone got to where they are while avoiding using talking-heads or data-dumps. The metahuman abilities some of the characters develop, especially given the origins of those abilities, provide an interesting aspect of fantasy and the decisions made in the end by those with abilities are both surprising and understandable.
I am a big fan of Steve Campbell's narration, and he does not disappoint here. Knocks it out of the park as always!

I listened to the first part of this book. I cannot take any more of these characters. These characters are flawed. They are so flawed the other flawed characters dont even see it. They’re all 30 year old pre teens. The literal worst kind of people. Cant finish this. Glad i didn’t spend money on it only a credit.

Unique Futureist Apotolipic 3 books in 1 Tale
I purchased This Audible book and listened to it on Audible. Narrator does a good job with the characters Except to Loud on Samso 's voice causing me to have to turn volume down then when other characters talking have to raise volume back up. Extremely Frustrating!! This Story is a unique futureistic experience that could be possible.
Though I liked the Series book #1 was to me quite slow and I almost gave up, but did not and Sooo Very glad I didn't, to me book #2 much better and book #3 the conclusion was the best of them all.

Recommendation: 2 of 5, Good for a light read but
Pros: Interesting take on the post-apocalyptic genre Narration was done very well Cons: Character inconsistency. The main characters don't remain consistent in how they react to anything. Characters will get angry about inconsequential things and ignore important things. Character development. The main characters don't seem to develop or learn from anything that they encounter. (see note) Nonlinear narrative style. Written in a style which has the narrative jumping around through time. (see note) Note on nonlinear narrative: this is a Master level Writing Style, which this author has NOT graduated to. Throughout these books, the author has the protagonist(s) do something only to have them do something similar months or years earlier in subsequent characters. This leaves the reader either confused or angry as to why said protagonist(s) is doing something stupid. Recommendation: 2 of 5, Good for a light read but be ready to be frustrated with inconsistencies and a less that stellar writing style.

Twists and turns throughout.
Loved the narrator, for someone who can't do accents myself I enjoyed all of his. The story was very good. Nice twist on post-apocalyptic books.
