Lady Hale is an inspirational figure admired for her historic achievements and for the causes she has championed. Spider Woman is her story.
As 'a little girl from a little school in a little village in North Yorkshire', she only went into the law because her headteacher told her she wasn't clever enough to study history. She became the most senior judge in the country, but it was an unconventional path to the top.
How does a self-professed 'girly swot' get ahead in a profession dominated by men? Was it a surprise that the perspectives of women and other disadvantaged groups had been overlooked, or that children's interests were marginalised? A lifelong smasher of glass-ceilings, who took as her motto 'women are equal to everything', her landmark rulings in areas including domestic violence, divorce, mental health and equality were her attempt to correct that.
As president of the Supreme Court, Lady Hale won global attention in finding the 2019 prorogation of Parliament to be unlawful. Yet that dramatic moment was merely the pinnacle of a career throughout which she was hailed as a pioneering reformer.

This book. It's like having a fireside chat.
This book is really worth a read. If you want to understand. One of the Titans. Of the legal profession here in the UK. And Baroness Hale's delivery. It's like you're sitting. Inyorkshire cottage and she's offering. You personally her pose of wisdom. About an amazing career. I only wish. There was a time. But I will hopefully. Get to meet this individual. Because Her legal mind. Is one of those. Fat we should all learn from. So take this step today. And purchase this book. If you want your mind expanded. Around legal process. But in the most engaging way.

Marvellous and so inspiring
For a self titled “specky swot” Lady Hale has led a most remarkable life. I really enjoyed listening to this book and hearing of her calm discussion of the misogyny and downright disrespect she had to suffer as a woman. But she came through magnificently and I hope many others will follow her example.

Spider woman Lady Hale
Very interesting biography, well read by the writer herself.
Lady Hale shows how the things in life which are meant to be, take one along a course which seems haphazard but which is fulfilling when
looking back.
It was interesting to find out about how the legal system works and the advancement of women in the legal profession.

What a life, what a lady
So well narrated. A fascinating story of achievement through hard work and merit. Lady Hale has a disarmingly informal approach to her stellar, groundbreaking career. A woman in the mould of RBG. Giving clear, articulate insight into many judicial rulings.
That spider broach did us all a favour, bringing this remarkable lady to our attention.
