Summary

The first shocking and exhilarating audiobook in the Edmonton Police Station thriller series...

DI Fred Fairservice has just returned from holiday when he’s confronted with several mysterious deaths; the mutilated dead body of a junkie, the apparent suicide of a housewife, and the murder of a cannibal, kicks off the strangest investigation of his dark and brutal career.

But the strangest element of the case is the connection to the deaths of several old men and women who are found with spiders placed in their mouths. Slowly it dawns on Fred that it’s all too familiar and echoes something strange and macabre that happened to him when he was a boy. It can’t be just a coincidence.

With Detective Inspector Mark South in tow, Fred has to stop the killings, solve the riddle of the spiders, and help find a missing girl called Heather - All before his bosses make him take early retirement and his violent past catches up with him. But DI Fred Fairservice has other much darker demons to deal with...

Spider Mouth

It is a good story but the ending was a bit of a letdown. Good enough that I bought the next book in the series. Great author.

Amazing Story

I listen to this book in just a few days and really enjoyed it. It was a lot different than a lot of mystery/thrillers out there, so I was happy to find something new and fresh. The story kept me guessing until the last page! Awesome indeed!

That Ending

Don’t get me wrong it’s great. I just hate how needlessly violent and heartbreaking the ending was. Audiobook oscar for the narrators performance in that final chapter.

Great Thriller

Was a fan of the narrator from The Accidental Scoundrel and decided to check out some of his more serious performances, now I’m an even bigger fan of the author. Mark Yarwood seems to have bottled the essence of what it takes to start a compelling crime series and get people hooked.

Can’t Believe It’s Not A Show

When the Beeb has put Luther out to pasture, this series would be absolutely perfect to fill the void! For now, enjoy Mark’s sensory rich, chilling police thriller in audiobook form.

I Enjoyed It

For the first time, I encountered this incredible author. I did enjoy reading this book by Mike Yarwood. It has been written in an interesting 'tense' which when I got used to it was quite good. The plot was not as predictable as I initially thought and held my attention all the way through. Amazing narration as well.

Hats Off!

It is a great audiobook. For some reason, British crime writers are able to create gritty, vulnerable characters who are by no means superhuman, and Mr. Yarwood has absolutely excelled here. I loved the grittiness of this novel - the characters, the scenes, and the plot. And whilst it was hard to truly like any characters, you couldn't help empathize with them. I recommend this book.

Incredible

This is an interesting audiobook indeed. The plot seems a little all over the place at times, there are a couple of various avenues that are just kind of thrown in, making the reader wonder what's really going on. Nonetheless, it's a good audiobook. I am surely looking forward to reading more by Yarwood.

Don't bother.

My worst listen of 2019. Tedious and boring until the last chapter. I thought about returning many times and should have.

A Unique, Jaw Dropping Ending

Don’t go through this London-based cop thriller thinking you’ll know how it’s going to end. Trust me you won’t! Finished listening to it a few hours ago and I’m still shook up - somewhat devastated, and absolutely pumped for book 2! Brilliantly written mark and brilliantly narrated Thomas.

Not for Arachnophobes

Mark has written great characters and built a grimy, atmospheric world to put them in. Superbly narrated, Thomas handled the dangerous and more villainous characters especially well.

Great start to the series.

Big fan of Mark Yarwood since I listened to Jairus Sacrifice. Gone back to his original Edmonton series to where it all began and was every bit as thrilled!
