Summary

Live, die, get smashed - it's all just something to do!

Trainspotting meets Shaun of the Dead in a drug- and alcohol-fueled crash through a zombie apocalypse.

Oddly, it turned out the only people who could survive a zombie apocalypse are spice zombies. A squad of spice zombies must use their immunity to the pandemic that's turning everyone into real zombies to save the last of humanity.

Will the lowest of society forgive the way they have been treated to save the people who look down on them, or will they just get smashed on the free drugs and booze?

Close to 'A Zombie Bit Myffanie', But No Cigar

Overall, this was an enjoyable story from Simon. Who knew a tale that revolves around a group of raging druggos in a zombie apocalypse could be so fun?

Even though I personally prefer 'A Zombie Bit Myffanie' out of the 2 zombie-themed audiobooks I've reviewed by this author so far, 'Spice, Zombie, Apocalypse' is very good. Not only does it have some very funny parts, but it also has elements of seriousness, explaining how the characters hit rock bottom, which I felt was a nice touch.

Thanks for the laugh, well worth a listen. I'd give it 4/5 stars.

More Lunacy from Simon Carr

I'm a big fan of the lunacy that springs from the pen of Simon Carr but this one isn't one of his best offerings. Saying that, it still scores a solid 3 stars and is peppered with the laugh out loud society observations and witty conversations that are a mainstay of his work.

Simon's book are best read when you are alone - it stops all the stares and tutting

An amazing mash up

I was given a copy of this for an honest review. Trainspotting meets Shaun of the dead is spot on. This is amazing. I’d love to know how the concept of this came about. I just imagine 2 wheels with different, iconic films from 2 genres on either side being span. I can’t wait to see what other mash ups might be invented

Not my favorite

It was okay but a lot of swearing and really kind of strange. But okay

Spice, Spice, Baby!

In the Immortal words of Herbert, "The Spice Must Flow."

I'm positive that Carr was referencing Dune when he came up with the name of his new drug, you know, the zombie virus-resistant drug. In this world, everything is flipped on its head as druggies become humanity's only hope, not the straight-laced normies. Those cats fall to the plague like wheat before a scythe. So, what starts out as some goofy strung-out protagonists swiftly shifts into a "Can we save the world? If so, how the hell did we become the responsible ones?"

The humor often goes so far over the top that it ricochets off a satellite once or twice, but that's ok; the story isn't Shakespeare in the Park. Taylor plays it all well, and I have to say it's not easy differentiating between dope fiends and zombies vocally, at least in my mind.
A fun ride for it being the end of the world and all.

A good laugh

If you need a good laugh, this is the book for you. the start makes no sense at first but as the book goes on it will begin to. But honestly a good laugh and some time killed is about all you're going to get from this book. The performance of the reader is pretty good.

A humorous zombie apocalypse novella!

Simor Carr did a great job with this humorous zombie apocalypse novella. This book is hilarious! The characters are well developed, the storyline is fun, and the relationships are great. An excellent short read! Audio Version: Matt Taylor did great and each character was well defined.

Drugs will kill you - not!

Who would have guessed that being totally slammed off your rocker on Spice would save your life? An extremely fast virus has taken over the UK and Europe, producing instant zombies. However, it meets its match in Spice addicts. Zombies totally ignore them. Seeing this, a small band of Spice-heads set out to escape town but eventually find themselves trying to save the world.

Zombies and More Zombies

Simon Carr has written about a group of people, hooked on a drug called spice, which caused them to be immune to a virus that was turning people into zombies. I was entertained by this story, although the humor was sometimes over the top causing me to ask myself, "What the heck?", but also causing me to chuckle. Underneath the outrageous humor, there was a story about what family means and how unusual circumstances can bring out the best or the worst in people. Matt Taylor's narration was great, and his use of various voices added entertainment to the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

A Bit Confusing at First

I enjoyed the story and the performance, but it can get a bit confusing if you are listening in the car or busy. You really do need to sit and listen. Matt Taylor did a spectacular job with all the different voices, and you could tell who was talking at any given point. Simon Carr brought his usual humor to everything, but I think I might have enjoyed it more reading the book or whispersyncing.
