Very helpful

The stories are straightforward. In the version on kindle ther is a resume, vocabulary and questions. I listened to each chapter and then read it. This worked well.

Invaluable for language learning

Love the way that these stories are constructed. I use the audio together with the printed stories also. My Spanish has greatly improved as a result. ¡Le doy gracias!

Excellent short story book

This is an excellent book. The short stories are engaging and varied, spanning different genres. I really enjoyed listening to them and am kind of sad I finished them. The narration is very good and really brings the stories to life. Phrases and words are repeated several times in different ways, without it being awkward, which helps with memorising. I was reminded of words I had forgotten, and learned new ones. The pace is just right too. Some existing knowledge of Spanish is necessary, however. I don’t think the book would be suitable for a complete beginner.

The best short story books you will find

Having tried out a number of books of short stories for beginners I have to say that the two by Olly Richards have the best stories in! The usual stuff I heard was so dull. Maybe it had its use as a tool for learning Spanish, but I just couldn't get into the stories, I was bored, I didn't care about the plot or the characters, in fact much of the time there was little plot. So I was turned off from listening. But then I made the lucky decision to try Olly Richards and it was such a difference. The stories are interesting, gripping even, and I was actually totally gutted to get to the end of the book. You will not be disappointed in these if you don't worry about not having everything explained and have some knowledge of Spanish. These are not for the complete beginner. I have been learning for 6 months and there were a number of words I didn't know, but the stories are well-written enough that it is possible to pick up the gist of what is being said. I was delighted with how much I did understand and it is a great way to supplement normal Spanish learning books. Forget those books with endless fake reviews (why does audible allow that!?) and listen to something fun and entertaining by Olly Richards.

Great for Castilian Spanish learners

I’m happy with this audiobook because I plan to spend time in Spain and I want to learn the appropriate pronunciations and verb conjugations for my destination. Larraz has clear pronunciation and is pleasant to listen to. I’m too much of a beginner to judge how interesting the stories are or how appropriate the grammar and overall vocabulary may be for beginners, but I am able to pick out many familiar words and phrases. I was not enthusiastic in my high school Spanish classes 20 years ago, so I’m thrilled about that!
I’ve found the Kindle version of this book on Amazon, so my next step is to order it so that I can delve deeper into the vocabulary and comprehension. If you’re as much of a beginner as me, it will help to know that the summaries and multiple-choice questions etc. are in Spanish.
I wish there were summaries in English, or a key vocabulary list for each story, so I wouldn’t need to rely on literally looking up individual words and phrases. But I get really bored with language apps and I’m probably starting on stories with less skill than most people.

Great, fun way to learn Spanish vocabulary!

Reading these short stories is an innovative and fun way to build my Spanish comprehension and vocabulary. Once I started reading, I did not want to stop. I have been improving comprehension and building my vocabulary and my confidence. I also purchased the audio version which has also improved my listening comprehension. Thank you Olly. Please keep writing new books in Spanish. These have been a great help.

This is not for beginners

What disappointed you about Spanish Short Stories for Beginners, Volume 2?

This is very difficult to follow and there is no help or references.

What could Olly Richards have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It would be nice to have a written book to refer to and/or an english synopsis of the stories in case the listener was having difficulty understand. My spanish professor
warned me and she was right.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Susana Larraz?

Narrator was fine.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Spanish Short Stories for Beginners, Volume 2?

I didn't understand enough to be able to comment on this.

no readalong text provided

I bought three of this author's books believing his hype that a readalong text would be provided. Non was and he states that the audio is on Audible but the text has to be purchased from Amazon as an "extra". But Amazon denies any knowledge of a text for sale separately.
Very disappointed.

Liked this book

I liked this book, though it's not exactly for beginners. Short stories divided into even smaller parts, that makes listening and memorising new words easier.
Some plots are more interesting, others less, but make a fascinating story within limits of A-level book's vocabulary is almost impossible.
