Summary

Amazing book
Loved the book, not overly keen on the narrator and accents she uses. However she enticed me enough to pick up the physical book so that’s something! Would recommend.

Enchanting and hilarious
Oh my goodness what a wonderful audiobook! I loved Margaret Rogerson’s first book (an enchantment of ravens), and this one was amazing too. It includes talking books, libraries, wonderful main characters and a really sweet romance. And the ending was just so perfect I can’t even describe! I don’t really know how to do this book justice in a review.. just read/listen to it! Although this was a stand alone, I am so excited and looking forward to any other books this author writes and she’s quickly become one of my favourite authors! 💜

gets better as you listen
at first I was unsure if this was my kind of story but about 2 hours in it gets much deeper and more interesting, ending wonderfully.
nicely paced and well read.

I didn't hate it...
I really hate giving bad reviews to anything, but this was difficult for me as someone who loves YA and loves Fantasy because I really should have loved it.
So summarised annoyances:
1. The book isn't named after the MC but her love interest...
2... who has very little charisma or chemistry with MC. He does have a few good snarks, but is so detached from the majority of the story.
3. Tried to hard to be beauty and the beast.
4. My favourite character died, and his arc is just explained posthumously.
5. Not nearly enough is explained about the awesome libraries full of Grimoires.
Other than that - its alright!

Brilliant!
Loved listening to this book. Have really missed great fantasy adventure books similar to those I read when I was a teenager. Fantastic having a female protagonist. Wished there was a series. I highly recommend this book. Written and performed superbly!

A beautiful story set in a well constructed works.
Spoiler free review.
Played at 1.1x speed seemed right for me.
The story does not feel like a dig, or play on any religion.
I started this as a book, but found I didn't have the time to continue, so I got it as an audiobook aswell, this audiobook very difficult to pause. I would find extra minutes alone at work to listen to a little more.
The story develops at a good pace, the world that is created is explained well but not forcefully.
If you like magic and demons but in a world where it doesn't feel like an abuse of these features, then this is for you.

Disappointed in the end
I ended up feeling pretty underwhelmed by the this book which is such a pity because I feel it started off strong and I liked the overall premise of it. It felt as though the writing was trying to be pretty and lyrical but it didn't add anything to the listening experience. I also felt like Elisabeth and Nathaniel's relationship fell flat, there was potential for more but it was all a bit cheesy. The ending felt lazy by summing up the end of the battle and the aftermath in the epilogue. An easy listen overall but I don't get the hype.

Great world building but the best bits are absent
I enjoyed this story overall. The idea of the librarys and the plot progression was exciting and novel. However, I did feel like some of the climactic parts of the novel were cut short and interactions or reactions between characters that I was excited to experience where missing or edited out. Shame..
