Summary

He doesn’t need a weapon. He is the weapon.

After losing his powers in an epic battle between good and evil, former sorcerer Nate Garrett finds himself living as a humble human in Clockwork, Oregon. While the world thinks Nate is dead, his friends continue to fight against Avalon and the evil it’s intent on spreading.

Avalon’s forces turn up in Clockwork, and Nate’s frustration grows with every passing day his magic doesn’t return. He finds himself trying to stop Avalon’s plans while hiding from enemies who would destroy everything in their path to see him dead.

Avalon’s darkness begins to threaten the people Nate cares about, and an old nemesis returns; magic or no magic, he has no choice but to fight. But will Nate see his magical powers reborn before the entire town—and everyone he loves—is destroyed?

More Nate is never a bad thing

So happy Nate is back and can’t wait for him to kick Arthur into touch and Layla having her own sections was very good.
Wasn’t sure about the dual narration but I liked it and can’t wait for book 2.

He returns

Thank you Mr McHugh, once again an amazing book. I’ve nothing negative to say I love both Nate and Layla ( although not as much) and I absolutely adore Remy and the rest of the “Rebellion “. Can’t wait for the next books. Roll on February.
Again a really fabulous book and I thank you for the escapism it supplies. Thank you 🙏🏻

really enjoyed

didn't know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised with this book... reminds me a bit of the Last Druid series ... from the gods and how that all works but everything else is original and brilliant... loved the banter in the book... I literally had moments where I laughed out loud, got goosebumps from excitement and got choked up almost crying .. what more could you want from an audiobook

Nate's back!

Why is it not surprising that Nate's 'recovery' didn't go to plan and his trouble magnet remained activated?

I mean, what could possibly go wrong with 'human powered' Nate's recovery in a backwater town when a bunch of Avalon backed Nazis turn up to run some experiments?

I like the way this harks back to the early Hellequin books with two parallel storylines (albeit Nate & Layla instead of past Nate), but herein lies a slight problem for me. Layla's story carries on from the end of Thunder of War, but Nate's story doesn't hit that point until about two thirds in.

Still, minor gripes aside, I can't wait for more...

Another, I can't stop listing to it. Excellent as usual. The author really knows how to keep us coming back for more. Loved it.

2 narrators?

Hmm, two narrators for this s story came as a surprise and I’m not sure if I liked it.

Enjoyed the continuation of Nate’s story very much but less sure about the introduction of Lyla as a separate story . I suspect her story will become an integral part of the series and I will grow to like her eventually. I may even grow to like her narrator.

That said, I’m off to get the next book in the series.

Keeps the action (and friendships) going

The parallel narration works nicely with our 2 lead heroes and their teams. I liked the ending with its promise of excitement to come.
