Summary

One day 14-year-old Sophie Amundsen comes home from school to find in her mailbox two notes, with one question on each: "Who are you?" and "Where does the world come from?" From that irresistible beginning, Sophie becomes obsessed with questions that take her far beyond her home. Through those letters, she enrolls in a kind of correspondence course, covering Socrates to Sartre, with a mysterious philosopher, while receiving letters addressed to another girl.

Who is Hilde? And why does her mail keep turning up? To unravel this riddle, Sophie must use the philosophy she is learning - but the truth turns out to be far more complicated than she could have imagined.

A wonderful introduction to Philosophy

I first read Sophie's world when I was twelve and I truly loved it. Listening to it brings back so many fond memories.

Now having said that, if you actually gift the book to a child just stress the fact that what Sophie did in the book, corresponding with a stranger and even meeting them upon request because they sound cool, was actually very very dangerous and under no circumstances should they do that.

Sorry for ruining the innocence of it but reading old books as an adult you notice things, Obviously, during the writer's time internet was barely a thing but I think we should be especially careful in our times.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
