Summary

Ten years after the publication of Wicked, beloved novelist Gregory Maguire returns at last to the land of Oz. There he introduces us to Liir, an adolescent boy last seen hiding in the shadows of the castle after Dorothy did in the Witch. Bruised, comatose, and left for dead in a gully, Liir is shattered in spirit as well as in form. But he is tended at the Cloister of Saint Glinda by the silent novice called Candle, who wills him back to life with her musical gifts.

What dark force left Liir in this condition? Is he really Elphaba's son? He has her broom and her cape, but what of her powers? Can he find his supposed half-sister, Nor, last seen in the forbidding prison, Southstairs? Can he fulfill the last wishes of a dying princess? In an Oz that, since the Wizard's departure, is under new and dangerous management, can Liir keep his head down long enough to grow up?

For the countless fans who have been dazzled and entranced by Maguire's Oz, Son of a Witch is the rich reward they have awaited so long.

"Masterfully imaginative....Ten years after Wicked (which is still on Broadway), fans will once again be clicking their heels with wonderment." ( Publishers Weekly)
"A tale that adroitly mixes drama, humor, and political satire into a well-knit examination of good and evil." ( Library Journal)

Awful awful narration....

I was really looking forward to this book, loved the first one, couldn't switch it off! This might of been a good story, but the narration was flat/monotone and very annoying, Ruined the story for me

I thought Wicked was good but this is even better!

I never really wanted to read this series of books, but I tried them and my god they are good. And I really love the pace and narration. Adds to it for sure. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Let Down By The Ending

I enjoyed this all the way and became very involved in the characters which is why I felt especially cheated when the novel ended abruptly, leaving many questions unanswered and the fate of almost everyone hanging.
I even checked to see if I'd forgotten to download a part but no that seemed to be it.
An intruguing listen but ultimately unsatisfying.

What were they thinking letting Maguire narrate?!

I love this book, I've read the whole series before. I enjoyed the Wicked audiobook which chose a fantastic narrator. But with this book they allowed the author, Gregory Maguire narrate. Now I've heard Maguire's actual speaking voice and it's fine, so what possessed him to read this book in a raspy half whisper beats me. The character voices are worse though, when it got to my favourite part of the book, The Council of Birds, the bird voices are so annoying I had to turn it off. Unlistenable.

didn't enjoy this book at all..... the first book wicked I listen to twice so I was excited to get listen to this one .

1 the stupid music for no reason got to me I don't know why

2 gregory maguire voice just did my head in his voice is so boring.

3 oh when he tried to do voices aww I don't know he should just stay to writing book.

I really hope the next 2 book he is not reading if so I don't see me getting them.

I think I'm going to get the book and read it myself I say the story would be good but his voice has just put me off.

I'm sorry I'm writing this
