Summary

All her life, Annie Prideaux has suffered through her brother's constant practical jokes. But Jake's last joke is one too many, she decides when he sets her up on a blind date with his friend Drew - neglecting to tell his straight sister one tiny detail: Her date is not a man but a lesbian.

Annie and Drew decide it's time to turn the tables on Jake by pretending to fall in love with each other.

At first glance, they have nothing in common. Disillusioned with love, Annie focuses on books, her cat, and her work as an accountant while Drew, more confident and outgoing, owns a dog and spends most of her time working in her beloved vineyard.

Only their common goal to take revenge on Jake unites them. But what starts as a table-turning game soon turns Annie's and Drew's lives upside down as the lines between pretending and reality begin to blur.

Something in the Wine is a story about love, friendship, and coming to terms with what it means to be yourself.

Good but not thrilling

I had listened to another one of Jae's books (Just for show) which I had really enjoyed but this one lacked the depth that the other one had. I liked Drew but failed to relate to/understand/appreciate Annie.
Worth mentioning that there is no sex in this one, if that's what you're hoping for hahaha

lovely story but ending was abrupt

really liked the book, but didn't like the ending. it felt unfinished. no love scenes so you weren't there along with the characters when they took that step. I was actually shocked when it ended, thinking that I didn't have the whole book, but alas I did. unsatisfied abrupt end.

stuck with it & turned out ok.

a nice book of someone slowly falling in love & the pressure that bring, especially if they aren't knowingly gay. I did initially have as problem with the narrator at the beginning of the book, as she read it very robotic. however t he at did improve as it went on, so stick with it.

Narrator did a good job with this story.

I loved this audiobook and will definitely listen to it again. As I've come to expect from Jae (the author), this book is a well written story that pulls you in from start to finish. I have found Jae to be a solid author who doesn't disappoint. When I start her books I have come to know and trust that I will enjoy them.

The main characters (Annie & Drew) in this book are very likeable and easy to relate to. I enjoyed the story very much, and actually really liked that it was a slow burn romance for these two.

The narrator did a good job of capturing these characters and the story.

Sweet story. No sex.

I enjoyed the story. I am dissapointed in the lack of a love scene. The story could have been so much better.

Sweet story...

I enjoyed this book, but it is not my favorite by Jae. I love more romance and sex.....not in this book. This book left me expecting more than a work Christmas party kiss.

Great!

I loved Something in the Wine. Excellent coming of age(?) story. Or maybe coming into your own. I don't know why I never reviewed this before. I've read the print edition several times and know the audio by heart. Laura Bannister does an excellent job with the narration.

Love isn't just a romance, friendship of the heart

Annie is an awkwardly brilliant woman. Her older brother Jake continues to play jokes at her expense. He sets her up with Drew (the woman she spilt wine on), he just doesn't tell her Drew is a woman. The best joke is that they try to convince Jake they are in love to prank him. The truth is they do fall in love. I enjoyed the journey Annie made not only to grow more fully into her self but to love Drew. This is a sweet, romantice story of a woman learning to love- that person just happens to be a woman. I loved the moment Annie told her parents and Jake how she felt all these years. Jake's prankster playboy heart maybe did not learn a lesson but he helped Annie in a way even she could not see coming. I loved Drew an her gentle strength that as they spent more time together opened Annie. Laura Bannister gave such great voice that you could feel the emotions of the characters. A love is love story for everyone.

Favorite Jae Book so Far

I love Jae because her characters have the depth that most lesbian romance writers don’t spend the time putting into their characters and stories. My favorite Jae book yet.

Wonderful

This book was refreshing and sweet.. it was a light hearted romance. I loved the momentum of the story line. The writer did a great job building the characters friendship. I think i would of like to of seen a more conclusive ending like where they were heading next. But thats be wanting the book to never end. I TRULY enjoyed this Writer Jae is very talented and i love her work.
Ps. There is a part two....

Good romantic comedy that warms your heart.

I read a ton of the romances and will have to say this was good one. I found myself looking forward to reading and catching up on what was going to happen next. Yes it was a bit predictable but if you like wine and romance you will enjoy this delightful rom-com.

Dissappointing.

I just finished Wrong Number Right Woman and it was so good I thought to try another by this author. But this book wasnt cute or funny, and the narrators voice is like a limp handshake.
