Summary

Once they were a band of mercenaries who shook the pillars of the world through their cunning, their closely guarded alchemical brews and stone-cold steel. Whoever met their price won.

Now, their glory days behind them and their genius leader in hiding, the warriors known as the Twenty are being hunted down and eliminated one by one. A lifetime of enemies has its own price.

ok

Good story, made confusing by far to many characters feels like the ending to a long series which would have worked as the characters would have grown beforehand but maybe that was the idea, some original ideas and we'll worth a listen but game of thrones it isn't.

Excellent

Loved this so much... Once I got into it. I started the print book twice, and wasn't feeling it. But so many people who's book choices usually match mine had loved it, I decided to give the audio a try. So glad I did. An excellent, grim, torturous, uplifting story of friendship, brotherhood and betrayal. With characters you care about and a hard, dirty medieval world that is mostly high on plant based drugs. Read or listen to it, you won't regret it. Joe Jameson is fast becoming one of my favourite narrators, and I will definitely be reading all of Adrian Selby's future books.

Fantastic

Well written characters
Great world
Unique voices and accents
Brilliant use of oils, powders, bags and fight brews.
Great fight scenes
Gritty, violent, emotionally charged, cleverly paced
Loveable characters in a horrid world
Great narration also 10/10

No

Some interesting characters and ideas but this reads like a bad D&D game.
Needed a good editor to bring out a story arc to hold it together and stop it being too fragmented to identify with characters. In the end I didn’t care about any character or the world in which they lived.
So my final comment is just no, sadly

The first audible I've not completed

I love Joe Jameson's narration, but even that could not save this dreary book. For the first time in my two years of audible, I stopped listening and moved on to another title!
