Summary

Former Special Forces Green Beret, Sacha “Joker” Wilder, is well-versed on the subject of demolitions. As a silent partner of Four Kings Security, Joker spends his days working alongside his brothers-in-arms and his best boy, Chip - a bomb-sniffing Belgian Malinois with sass. Years of military and private security experience have prepared Joker for almost anything, except the explosive attraction between him and Giovanni Galanos.

When Gio returns from his travels abroad, everyone is charmed by the handsome billionaire philanthropist, but in Joker’s experience, anyone who’s too good to be true usually is. Gio is hiding something, but the more time Joker spends around Gio, the more his walls start crumbling, leaving him exposed and at risk of losing his heart, something he swore he would never do. Love is for suckers, and that’s not him.

For years Gio has dedicated his life to his charity work, helping people around the globe, but when things go horribly wrong during one particular trip, Gio decides it’s time to come home for good. The desire for family, and a certain ex-Green Beret with a chip on his shoulder, has Gio eager to restart his life Stateside. For all of Sacha’s blustering and griping, no one makes Gio feel safer. If only Sacha could see how right they are for each other.

Danger lurks in the shadows as someone sets their sights on Gio, and secrets are forced into the light. If Gio and Joker are to have any kind of future together, they’ll have to face difficult truths, because where love is concerned, it’ll take more than sleight of hand to make things work.

The Kings: Wild Cards series is a spin-off of the Four Kings Security series.

Snort laughs and aching tears in equal measure!

I've listened and relistened to all the books in this series and I love them all, but this one... This one is something special!

Although we've glimpsed Joker and Gio in previous books, this one fills in the details beautifully and takes you to so many different places emotionally! You have humour (thanks Chip!), action, heartache - both past and present, steamy romance and snark a plenty!

The narrator does such an excellent job that you forget he's there and think you're just hearing from the characters.

Well worth the credit!

Charlie has done it again! I’ve been looking forward to this book coming out for a while now and…IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!

The story was really sweet. The narration was amazing! Greg really brought all of the characters to life! Most important THERE WAS SO MUCH CHIP!! I highly recommend this book it’s a great combination of sweet, funny, and serious.

Worth the wait

I really loved this book. Had been looking forward when it was teased on the previous books and somewhat impatiently waited till it was released.
What I really loved about this book that it was Gio and Joker’s story. The focus is really on them, no secondary characters that steal the limelight. The couple’s dynamic was refreshing and i really love Joker’s transformation from ‘Love is for suckers’ to ‘I love him’
Having it to audiobook was really good. I could not stop giggling at funny parts and made me cry again on the serious parts.
I really thank the author for creating this really good book and the narrator for making this wonderful book come alive.

The wait was worth it

I am a huge fan of this series. I hope there will be more adventures with the four kings, wild cards and their boyfriend collectives! I was dying of anticipation for this installment and I have to say it was definitely worth it. the chemistry between the two was no doubt something hot and sizzling. I thought it was kind of weird but cute that Gio was already infatuated with Joker even before they truly met face to face. I want all of them to marry and see more adventures from them and from any universe Charlie Cochet can think up.

One more great hand of wildcards

Joker's and Gio's story was so good! You can expect the usual suspense and thrills, romance, scorching hot sex scenes, true love and friendship. Add in Chip's antics and the rest of the team's shenanigans, and it gets even more perfect.
I so recommend this séries, and I can't wait for the next book. I need to know what happens with Saint and Val, and also to cousin Gage!

Wonderful series

I’ve been so pleased I decided to pick up these series. Gio and Joker were wonderful and their side kicks too.

Of course Greg Boudreaux narration was perfection! He’s the reason I started this listen in the first place!

Should have been warned it was bdsm

First, after reading all the others I was SO looking forward to this book. In fact, this title was the reason I read through/bought all the others. I wanted this caring compassionate person for Joker/Sasha and instead I got a bdsm wannabe talking to Sasha as if he were garbage. I was SO VERY disappointed. I returned this book and received my money back because I deserved it for the flaming piece of garbage this was - It could have been so good. Joker needed someone who understood him and his life and instead got an arrogant, know-it-all who only wanted to show his dominance over a green beret. I'm disgusted.

entertaining - solid 4.5 stars

Would I listen to it again: yes ✔
Did the story keep me engaged: yes ✔
Was I invested in the characters: yes ✔

📖 Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters, nice flow.
I was thoroughly entertained with Joker and Gio. I liked that these guys didn't dance around each other for half the book! Gio is a great character and an excellent addition to the "boyfriend collective". 😊

🎧 Narrator comment: Greg Tremblay is a master at his craft! He suits the characters, has good cadence, inflections and intonations and it's easy to distinguish the characters from each other. Overall an enjoyable performance and he bought the book to life.

Missing some background, but still amazing

I really enjoyed Joker and Gio’s story. As usual, they seem unlikely on the surface, but in truth fit together perfectly. Also like usual, the four legged brigade stole the show. BUT, the story tried too hard to fit in the same formula as the others as well as avoiding overlapping time frames, so it feels like the true beginnings of their story isn’t there and we’re missing a few steps in their journey. That’s really my only reason for four stars instead of five on the story. I love Greg Boudreaux’s narration of all these characters and how much life he brings to the books. He makes it a pleasure to listen to all the Four Kings books over and over.

They are sweet together

There was a lot of swearing if that's a concern. Chip was a scene-stealer and made the book even more fun. Greg Boudreaux did a wonderful job. His narration is always a delight.
