Summary

Original cast members from the beloved TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reunite for an all-new adventure about connections that never die—even if you bury them.

A decade has passed since the epic final battle that concluded Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV). The game-changing spell that gave power to all potential Slayers persists. With new Slayers constantly emerging, things are looking grim for the bad guys. Rebellious vampire Spike (James Marsters) is working undercover in Los Angeles with his old pal Clem (James Charles Leary) when he meets feisty, rookie Slayer, Indira (Laya DeLeon Hayes), who wants Spike to be her mentor. Stakes intensify as Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter) emerges from an alternate reality where she alone is the Slayer, and Buffy Summers doesn’t exist. Cordelia enlists Spike’s help with a classic big bad terrorizing her world…his ex, Drusilla (Juliet Landau). Giles (Anthony Head), Anya (Emma Caulfield Ford), Jonathan (Danny Strong), and Tara (Amber Benson) also return, but through the years and the vastness of the multiverse, not everyone is who they used to be…

Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is written and directed by Amber Benson and Chris Golden, and co-directed by Kc Wayland.

Joss Whedon reads comic books and Amber Benson writes comic books, so, no surprise, this is a story for comic book fans. It is not a story for me because it is the type of comic book story that I rarely enjoy. There are multiple alternate realities. In one, Cordelia is the Slayer. That is a clever idea because Charisma Carpenter auditioned for Buffy but it is not for me. I am a big dumb guy and I cannot work out which world we are on at any time, especially when the Earth 2 Tara is arguing with the Earth 3 Tara. However, many of our favourite actors are back. So, if you like Buffy (and if you don't like Buffy, why are you reading this?) you should buy it. But be warned. Although it is set in the Buffyverse, Buffy and Faith do not appear.

I like comic books BUT...

I went in excited by the original cast return not really expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised at how the characters felt the same yet different. there are some cheese woke language that is not needed in a universe that has always been feminist friendly. some little cheese bits, the dog part could have been cut but I happy to forgive the cheese as it matches the buffyverse so well lol.
spoiler talk I have always been a spuffy fan and angel and cordy shipper...but this cordy and spike idea has merit love it!!
that ending I do hope those cast members join in the fun be so great. yes we need more!!!!!!!
Shout out to James who was giving me series season 2 spike vibes. dru love a fellow crazy chick and our baby slayer cute as a button.
fun storyline that is very buffy verse got a mix of show vs comic book feel to it (the dog side plot for sure was comic book inspired lol)
Well done to all involved you did amazing!!!

A ship I never knew I needed!!

I've been rewatching Buffy and Angel over the last few months, while listening to the Buffering podcast, and this has come at the perfect time for me. I'm thirsty for more of this universe and hopeful that there's more to come now that I've finished this. It's time to reinvent the Slayer for a new generation and this is a wonderful bridge to that. When the "reboot" was shelved I was disappointed but understood under the circumstances. Now I hope that this can lead to more audio drama's and perhaps a softening to a new show too.

Being completely honest, my star ratings here are entirely clouded by nostalgia but that doesn't make them any less valid, because that nostalgia could have made me mad at this for daring to attempt to recapture the magic of the show and failing - thankfully that's not a problem. This is a wonderfully imagined Slayer story that takes elements of the series and expands upon them, given the characters/actors available to them at this present moment. I can only hope more will come and the other cast members will filter back after witnessing the love this story should receive.

Thumbs up all around.

A Delightful Surprise!

This was my very first audiobook and I'm so happy that they made it happen. So a huge thanks to everyone involved with the project. I finished it during the weekend, because I couldn't stop myself from listening to it. To hear my beloved characters again with so many references to things that happened in the series, they mention a lot of other characters who aren't around and finally getting justice for Anya and Cordelia was everything to me. I thought I'd never see the gang back again and slayin'. If you are a Buffy fan, it's a must.
PS. I'd recommend you to take a walk during the night while you are listening with headphones and it sets the tone perfectly and you yourself can spend some time in Sunnydale.

Welcome back to the Hellmouth!

As a huge Buffy and Angel fan of many years standing, it was an absolute delight to listen to this, my very first audiobook, and to hear some of my favourite characters brought back to life by their original actors. In particular, it was lovely to have Cordelia, Spike and Drusilla back and, of course, the fabulous Rupert Giles! But my favourite character turned out to be newbie slayer Indira (who made an instant impression with her fangirl quips), with a wonderful performance by Laya DeLeon Hayes.

The alternate universe storyline feels like classic Buffy, and writers Amber Benson and Christopher Golden have done a great job of making this story feel like a believable continuation of these characters' lives. Plus, there are some genuinely funny one-liners and nods to the original show thrown in for good measure. I did find a few of the action scenes a little difficult to follow at times, and I would've preferred shorter episodes of around half an hour each (because I find it difficult to find the time to listen to more than that in one go), but these are minor points in what was a really fun listening experience.

I'd definitely listen to more Buffy stories, or a new story featuring Indira perhaps? Thank you to all involved in this production for bringing the Buffyverse back to life!

A really fun blast from the past!
