Incredibly well performed

I absolutely loved this book, it was a huge leap ahead of the author's Grisha Trilogy, set in the same universe with completely new characters and a new and gripping story. The multiple narrators really brought it to life. I would definitely recommend this audio book.

Excellent story

A story that grips me and tales me along on an entertaining adventure. Characters are well wrought. Sceneries come to life without too many words.
The narration ensamble is brilliant!

Confusing at first but worth sticking with

If you saw my reviews of The Shadow and Bone Series you know that I wanted to read this book for a little while but I also wanted to read the books in chronological order. I'd seen this book a lot on Instagram but the main reason I picked it is because the audiobook has a full cast. I recently enjoyed Illuminae which had a full cast so went looking for more audiobooks like this.

I found the first few chapters of this story quite confusing and I think I was a good 40% in before it all clicked. There are multiple POV in this book which is always something I enjoy but it did make this more confusing, to begin with. It takes quite a while to get to know each of the characters and learn their backstory but its definitely worthwhile.

My favourite characters were Inej and Nina. Both have harrowing backstories and are still so brave. I loved seeing these two develop throughout the story.

The pace is quite slow, to begin with, but really speeds up about halfway through. There were a few twists and turns along with a few heart-stopping moments.

This was an epic story that I can see myself listening to again and still enjoying it just as much.

LOVED IT!!!

Can't stop recommending this to friends! Fast paced with well rounded characters. Wylan's narrator and character can come off as a bit whiney and annoying but other then that it is wonderful!
Really enjoyed the LGBTQ Rep and diverse characters. Very refreshing for YA.

Good once it gets going

I found that it took me until roughly halfway through to truly get into this book (more to do with the amount of characters and detail than anything else I think) but once there I was lost. It was great to be back in the Grishaverse again even if it was initially strange to be seeing it from a slightly different view than from the Grisha Trilogy

The world and characters were once again intriguing and it was nice to see chronic pain and PTSD represented well and within one character as well. These are a group of characters that I can't wait to spend more time with!

The only thing I found was because the narrators weren't specifically doing a particular character it was sometimes difficult to tell what character was talking when but not off putting enough to put me off listening to Crooked Kingdom.

Easily my favourite recent(ish) fantasy

I love everything about this book. The characters are amazing, the writing is brilliant and the setting is vivid. Audio production is also fantastic, I love having different narrators for all the title characters.

Really good story

Narrators we’re really rubbish and completely wooden at times. But the story line is excellent. I will stick to reading it myself from now on.

Without Pity

Having not read the previous Grisha Trilogy, I came to this book a little adrift, but no matter.

It starts with 6 diverse characters, outcasts known as the Dregs: Kaz, Inej, Nina, Jesper, Wylan and then there was Matthias, Fierdan; all the Dregs were young teenagers, which seemed at odds with their persona. The Job: Break into the Fjerda Ice Court and retrieve a package, which is all but a death sentence, But, who thinks of dying when the rewards are beyond anything they could dream of. And, of course, there is the revenge.

Its a fair book with murmurings of Oceans 11, although not one of the best I have listened to. However, it will not stop me following on with the Crooked Kingdom.

superbly crafted

The characters leave you wanting stories about them all. The setting is any sea port near you and the story is a rollercoaster through criminal, fantastic and wonderful minds, mazes, mistakes and mayhem. Since childhood, there have been books I never wanted to end. It's fantastic to find one as an adult. I can reread and be all of the characters, but it's odd to realise that I have fallen in love with a bunch of criminals!! 11 out of 10!!!!
